The ANS Group of Companies is the main news company in Azerbaijan[citation needed]. It was founded by three young Azeri journalists; brothers Vahid and Seyfulla Mustafayev, and Mirshahin Agayev in 1990. The Company's name, ANS, is deriven from the first letters of "Azerbaijan New Service". It was the first privately owned company in the former Soviet Union [1]. By the time since in the territory of the former Soviet Union there were many local wars, it got popularized by reporting news from the frontlines - Chechnya, Georgia, Ossetia, Karabakh, Abkhasia, Afganistan, Ingushetia and also had been sold to BBC, CNN, NBC, ZDF, ARD, VOX, RAI, TF, RTR, CBS, TBS[2]. ANS Group of Companies by itself being the independent news company, has been playing significant role in the development of the independent media in Azerbaijan.[citation needed]` Currently ANS Group of Companies owns four sub-companies: ANS TV, ANS ChM, ANS Press and ANS Kommers.
