[edit] Controversies

As the most prominent female porn star, Jameson often represents pornography and its controversies to the world.

An interview with Jenna Jameson contained in the 1999 Abercrombie & Fitch A&F Quarterly was one of the reasons prompting Michigan Attorney General Jennifer Granholm and Illinois Lieutenant Governor Corinne Wood to speak out against the hybrid magazine-catalog.[1] The campaign was joined by parents and Christian conservative groups, and got the Quarterly removed from shelves and eventually canceled in 2003.[2]

In November 2001, the venerable Oxford Union debating society invited Jameson to come to London to argue against the proposition "The House Believes that Porn is Harmful."[3] She has said "There are very few times when I get really, really nervous but this was certainly one of them."[4] and wrote in her diary at the time, "I feel like I am going to be out of my element, but, I could never pass this chance up... it's a once in a lifetime thing."[5] In the end, she won the debate 204 to 27.[6]

In February 2003, Pony International planned to feature her as one of several porn stars in advertisements for athletic shoes. This was attacked by Bill O'Reilly of Fox News in an editorial called "Using Quasi-Prostitutes to Sell Sneakers", calling porn stars inappropriate role models for teens.[7] In response, The Harvard Crimson proposed a boycott of O'Reilly and Fox News.[8] Jameson herself fought back with a sarcastic email to the show, writing:

I hope Bill understands the difference between a porn star and a hooker. I assume he has done some research on the subject because he requested some of my videos after we finished taping my appearance. I imagine he wanted them for professional reasons.[9]

In February 2003, when Pony controversially hired Jameson to promote athletic shoes, advertising expert Donny Deutsch commented on The O'Reilly Factor that "A Nike or Adidas, a much more established company, would never do it."[10] In April 2006, Jameson was the star of a Video Podcast ad for Adidas, advertising Adicolor shoes by playing a provocative game of Whack A Mole.[11][12]

The controversy around Jameson's profession has even affected those close to her. On November 12, 2006, her boyfriend Tito Ortiz was scheduled to be the guest of honor at the United States Marine Corps "birthday" ball at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego. When the Corps found he was planning to bring Jameson as his guest, they called her appearance inappropriate, and asked him to come without her. When he refused, they cancelled his appearance.[13][14]

Editor Fired After Uproar Over Simpson

By EDWARD WYATT Published: December 16, 2006

In recent years, she has helped to produce television series and specials like “Growing Up Gotti,” a series about the children of the crime family don John Gotti, which was broadcast on the A&E cable channel. Ms. Regan served as an executive producer of that program and others, including a television special with Jenna Jameson, the adult film actress whose best-selling memoir, “How to Make Love Like a Porn Star,” was published by ReganBooks.

Typical of Ms. Regan’s ability both to enrich and infuriate those who did business with her, Ms. Jameson later sued Ms. Regan over rights to a proposed reality television series featuring the actress.

She has countersued, accusing Jameson of breaching their contract by talking to A&E. Regan says her contract with Jameson was airtight and didn't give the porn star any say in arranging TV development deals on her own.

ON BEING SEXUALLY ACTIVE AT A YOUNG AGE

Jenna: I was searching for things in the wrong places & that was in boys. I just needed somebody to talk to at the time. You know it was right around the time when I was becoming a woman.

ON HER PORN CAREER

Jenna: Having sex with somebody that I don't care about isn't hard in any way. You don't think about it as a loving act, you think about it as work.

Jenna: I really do think that a lot of the rage that I have comes out in the sex that I have, and the career that I've chosen. It's my way of righting everything. I feel in control and I know I am in control and I like that.

Jenna: I wanted to show people that I wasn't that weak victim, I wanted to show them that I didn't need anyone to help me, when in all actuality, that's exactly what I needed.

Larry Massoli, Jenna's father: You don't pick those things for your children but, you know, she's a big girl and she was gonna do it no matter what, I had to back her up. As tough as it was for me ... I had to back her up

AFTER BEING RAPED

Jenna: I couldn't deal with it. I wanted to die. It's as simple as that, and I got to the point where I wouldn't come out of my room, I didn't say a word in months, I stopped going to school, I wouldn't say anything, no ... I mean, and they just left me alone.

Jenna: I remember coming home and being beat-, having been beaten, and lying to my father ... that I got in a fight in school. And I remember my father punishing me because of that. When, in my reality, I ... had been gang raped.

ON THE LACK OF HAPPINESS

Jenna: I realized that there was something missing in my life. Even though I had a Lamborghini in my garage, I had 100 Louis Vuitton purses, it doesn't matter. None of it matters.

ON HER MOTHER'S DEATH

Jenna: My life would be completely different if I had a mother. I know for a fact. I've gone over it a million times in my mind.

HER FATHER AND BROTHER ON HER STRIPPING CAREER

Larry Massoli, Jenna's father: I always tried to do the right thing. Whether I did them ... wrong or I did them right, I mean, who knows. Would I do things differently? Wouldn't we all?

Tony Massoli, Jenna's brother: Nobody wants their sister to be a stripper, but better for your sister to be a stripper than dead.

ON WANTING A CHILD

Jenna: I'd give up anything to have a child. I'd give up everything that I have.

Jenna: I ... know that when I get pregnant, I will never step foot in the adult industry again. Not because I feel shameful about it, but because I want to be able to focus every bit of my energy on that child.
