Template talk:Anon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] User pages
- Your own user page
- Your own talk page which, if you choose, also allows users to send you messages without knowing your e-mail address
Anons have those. Assuming they're not on a dynamic IP, anyway. - Vague | Rant 11:10, Jan 11, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Anonymity
Do you think it's worth pointing out that, perhaps counterintuitively, you GAIN anonymity by registering, as your IP address is no longer revealed to all and sundry. 213.232.66.5 00:42, 13 May 2005 (UTC)
- yes, that's a very good point to add. - Omegatron 18:53, May 19, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Something to add
I suggest adding a part of it saying that a user name chosen must be one that cannot be interpreted as a sockpuppet. Yesterday and today, I've been adding this message to several unregistered Wikipedians, followed by mentioning not to use one of the list of sockpuppets at User:Georgia guy/User names I don't want to see. (Go to the link and then click on "What links here" for a list of user talk pages I added this to.) Georgia guy 23:46, 17 May 2005 (UTC)
- Sockpuppets aren't illegal. I would rather let them make obvious sockpuppet names so they are easier to keep track of. I'm not sure what you're trying to do here. - Omegatron 15:11, May 20, 2005 (UTC)

- Well, the kind I'm talking about is one that you can see by clicking on the user names I don't want to see. The problem is I used a word based on my pure speculation not going into Wikipedia terminology in enough detail. The correct word is impersonation. Georgia guy 01:20, 21 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Similar template
There is a similar template. There is nothing wrong with having more than one as they are different but I thought I would point that out. Falphin 8 July 2005 21:30 (UTC)
[edit] Highlighting text
I'm going to make a couple of changes to this template, and I thought I'd better list my reasons here. Firstly, I don't quite see why "watchlist" is in bold - it's no more significant than other benefits of having an account. Secondly, if that's no longer bold then there's no need for "create an account" to be in large text. I've never really liked that anyway - it feels too much like shouting (I've often gone back and re-edited that bit of the message after I've subst it, as I just find it too pushy). [edit] Attack of the humourless drones
I removed the hello image added by Zondor. I encountered a user page with it on: it struck me as very odd, and it occurred to me that a duck on a pushchair does not really project the right sort of image for Wikipedia. --RobertG ♬ talk 08:47, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Changes
I think the following should be removed:
- The ability to view all your contributions via a "My contributions" link.
- Your own user page.
- Your own talk page which, if you choose, also allows users to send you messages without knowing your e-mail address.
- The right to be heard in votes and elections.
The first three are already available to anonymous users and the last is not available to new users automatically. In fact, the votes of anonymous users will often be considered if they are well-reasoned, while unexplained votes of new usernames are discarded. Superm401 - Talk 14:55, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Administrator-ness?
You might want to consider also removing or elaborating eligibility to become an administrator, since I have the impression that some newbies think this means that if they register they can immediately request to be granted admin status. --CH 02:52, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed. I think I'm gonna change it to be more like "eligible to eventually become an admin". --maru (talk) contribs 20:37, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
-
- I think it should be removed completely, it sends the wrong message. Being an administrator is not something one should "strive for," the best administrators are dedicated to Wikipedia, not becoming an admin. --SafeGuard 23:55, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Interwikis
This is french and portuguese interwikis for this template : fr:Modèle:Bonjour IP and pt:Predefinição:Bem-vindo IP. I can't add them since the protection, what a pity ! 82.237.72.231 18:25, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] "sign your name to your posts and comments"
The template could link to the corresponding guideline. —Tobias Bergemann 10:33, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] template correction needed
'comments with ~~~~" should be "comments with 4 tidals ~~~~" --Scott Grayban 10:33, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Requested Edits
I'd like to request the following changes:
- specify "four tildes" somewhere near the ~~~~, for extra clarity (and screen readers?)
- wikilink "sign your comments" to Wikipedia:Sign your posts on talk pages
- remove the next to last point about being an administrator entirely; new users should not be aiming for adminship that early
- Fix the interlanguage links by adding fr:Modèle:Bonjour IP and pt:Predefinição:Bem-vindo IP.
(Several of these are from above). Thanks, -- stillnotelf is invisible 19:04, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
- User:Neutrality took care of it. -- stillnotelf is invisible 04:49, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- Change
rename pages
to the directrename pages
link. I know, don't fix links that aren't broken, but this is such a high-use template, it could actually matter.--Zoz (t) 21:16, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
Add * If you are editing from different computers or if your service provider assigns you variable IP addresses, it will still be possible to know which contributions are yours. Andreas (T) 13:21, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Append "after 96 hours"
I'd like to request one more change: Append "after 96 hours" to "edit semi-protected pages." Seahen 20:41, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
- I've removed the editprotected. I think the change is unnecessarily complicated. However if you can show consensus for the change, please add back the editprotected notice.--Commander Keane 07:02, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Header
Remove the damn welcome header. ⇒ JarlaxleArtemis 01:06, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
- Why? I think most of the welcome messages have a header on top. It's not particularly ugly, or anything... — riana_dzasta • t • c • e • 02:51, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikify embedded text
How about Wikifying the text my talk page in the paragraph under the bullet list, and have the template substitute my talk page, where foo is the person posting the anon template? I usually go back and change it manually. Thoughts? /Blaxthos 22:31, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Customize the appearance and behavior of the website
Do we have a link for that? We have links for each of the other advantages. Xiner (talk) 22:42, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
- The problem is there are two different ones: Help:Preferences & Help:User style. —Centrx→talk • 16:02, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Apologies for my edits
Sorry if I messed up someone's watchlist - twice I tried to edit someone's talk page, adding my sig to something I forgot to sign, and twice I edited this article by mistake. Again, apologies. ≈ The Haunted Angel 10:07, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Add Template:Pp-template
editprotected Please add beneath the line that ends with <noinclude> and above the line with . Thanks, Iamunknown 05:04, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- done. — Carl (CBM · talk) 15:53, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. :) --Iamunknown 21:52, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
