IMDb profile

Another Gay Movie is a 2006 feature film, directed by Todd Stephens, humorously and satirically exploring gay coming of age through the lives of four gay male friends. Its plot is largely a parody of American Pie.

The film follows four gay friends, Andy, Jerod, Nico and Griff, who vow upon graduating high school that they will all lose their "anal virginity" before their friend Muffler's big Labor Day party. Each of the boys botches various opportunities to fulfill the pact, until the night of the party, when each guy successfully does the deed.

[edit] Plot

We are introduced to four gay friends, all of whom have recently graduated from high school. Andy is somewhat geeky and very sex-crazed, Jarod is handsome but insecure, Griff is bookish and conservative, and Nico is flamboyant and effeminate. Disappointed at their lack of sex lives, the four friends decide to make a pact to have anal sex by the end of the summer.

Each boy proceeds to pursue sex in different ways, with tragic and comedic results. Nico tries to secure an online date, Andy pursues his math teacher, Jarod seeks out fellow jocks, and Griff tries to earn the affection of an African American stripper. Much of the humor comes from how awkward each boy is at romance, and how naïve they are about the world of gay sex. Each plot backfires horribly, until the boys finally begin to change their attitudes towards sex.

[edit] Homages

This film gives homage to a number of movies, with particular emphasis on the entire genre of gay coming out movies.

[edit] Adam & Steve

  • Entire scene with Richard Hatch and an unfortunately-timed bowel movement.

[edit] American Pie

  • The boys make a pact to have sex.
  • Nico morosely says "Fortunately, our lives aren't coming of age films where we all magically get laid by the climax. This isn't American Pie!"
  • Andy has sex with freshly made warm quiche after being told by "Jarod" that anal sex feels like quiche lorraine, reminiscent of the sex with an apple pie scene in American Pie.
  • The experienced friend is named Muffler instead of Stifler. This character is complete with a younger teen version and a large, expensive house like Stifler.
  • In one scene, three cheerleaders were admiring a portrait of Muffler's grandfather, much like how two guys admired a portrait of Stiffler's mother.
  • In that same scene, one of the cheerleaders coined an acronym: G.I.L.W.A.D. (although her acronym did not have enough letters to correspond to its supposed meaning). This is parallel to the scene that popularized the acronym MILF.
  • Instead of having sex with Muffler's mom, a character - Jonah Blechman as Nico - has sex with her grandfather.
  • In a scene parodying Finch's run to the girls restroom, Nico has an extreme bowel movement due to having used three enemas.
  • Mini Muffler comes in the room and starts jumping up and down on the bed saying "butt fuckers", just like Stiffler's little brother.

[edit] Beautiful Thing (British)

  • The dancing scene during the final credits is a direct reference to the last scene of Beautiful Thing.

[edit] Broken Hearts Club (2000 USA)

  • Entire softball scene including the batter, "Jarod" in this film, flirting with and eventually dating a member of the opposing team. In Broken Hearts Club, the character was played by Dean Cain.

[edit] Carrie

  • The wet dream in the film is a shot for shot parody of the infamous prom scene, with the pigs blood being replaced with semen.

[edit] Edge of Seventeen

  • Actress Stephanie McVay reprises her role as the clueless mother from Edge of Seventeen and a poster from the film is on prominent display in her video store.

[edit] Get Real (1999 British)

  • Public restroom glory hole scene
  • Swimming pool scene

[edit] Mommie Dearest

  • At the beginning of the film, Lypsinka goes to a closet and sees a wire hanger, cringes, then gains her composure.
  • Later, Lypsinka paraphrases a famous line from Mommie Dearest, "I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the crumbs!", and starts shaking the bleach disinfectant cleanser everywhere.
  • The photograph/note left with the quiche is signed, "Mommie Dearest."

[edit] Queer as Folk

  • Andy says "Queer as Folk, eat your fucking heart out!"
  • Stephanie McVay comes out dressed as Sharon Gless's Queer as Folk character.

[edit] Revenge of the Nerds (1982 USA)

  • Spying on hapless victims through a hidden camera where instead of watching 'hair pie', they're looking at male bush.

[edit] Savage Love

  • The characters are graduating from San Torum High School. This is a reference to Dan Savage's coinage of the word santorum in his sex-advice column Savage Love to mean "that frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex."

[edit] Trick

  • A deleted scene featuring a drag queen talking to a boy at a urinal is taken from Trick.
