Cruz was born in Stockton, California, to Filipino parents, who raised her Catholic. She attended a Christian school, where she was involved in many activities such as cheerleading, drama club, yearbook, and journalism. At age 17, she graduated high school in the top 5% of her senior class and later moved to San Rafael, California, to attend Dominican University of California, a Catholic college, where she majored in print journalism. She later transferred to San Francisco State University in her sophomore year. [1]

In October 2003, she broke into the adult entertainment industry by way of an amateur producer in San Francisco, where she did her first girl-on-girl scene for AsianDivaGirls.com.[2] She was just a month shy of turning 19 years old at the time. In May 2004, she made one of her first notable movies for the reality porn website Bang Bus; she appeared as "Kyra".[3] By June 2004, she moved to Los Angeles, California. Since her debut in the industry in 2003, she has appeared in over 400 movies. An extremely versatile woman, Annie has done many things throughout her career. While she performs as a dominatrix in most of her current works, she is a switch in the BDSM world, and still occasionally performs submissive roles in some fetish films as in recent releases for Kink.com. She also appears in squirt films. Cruz is also a pin-up model, boxer, wrestler, and web designer.

At the beginning of her career, Cruz was in a living relationship with another woman. Their relationship ended in April 2004. Two months later, Cruz met husband Jack Lawrence in June 2004. They married seven months later at the Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas for fans and the entire industry to witness.[4] By June 2006, they divorced. She has since been dating an Iraq war veteran.

- She made a re-appearance on The Howard Stern Show in May 2006 in Hedonism III in Jamaica.

- A self-proclaimed "computer nerd",[7] Cruz designed and manages her own website as well as other adult paysites.
- Cruz had her own radio show on http://www.KSEXRadio.com from 2004-2006.
- She also entered the boxing industry, training with one of Laila Ali's former trainers. She has since won two boxing matches and is currently undefeated.
