My RfA

 • Thanks for the support position. However, I've decided to withdraw my acceptance because of real WP:CIVIL concerns. I will try again later when I've proven to myself and others that my anger will no longer interfere with my abilities as a Wikipedia editor. Thanks again, and I'll see you around here shortly. :) JuJube 04:25, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

I have removed the prod tag from 3 apples high, which you proposed for deletion, because its deletion has previously been contested or viewed as controversial. Proposed deletion is not for controversial deletions. For this reason, it is best not to propose deletion of articles that have previously been de-proded, even by the article creator, or which have previously been listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If you still feel the article should be deleted, please don't add the prod template back to the article, but feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! Odd coincidence

You know what?? Chiefsfan's real-life mother had surgery today also!! She had her gall bladder removed. What was your surgery for? I hope you have a speedy recovery! --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 00:26, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

That's lovely... (I'm being sarcastic, of course). I'm lucky to have inherited near-perfect teeth from my mother, so I've never had a tooth removed, and I'm probably not getting braces. --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 00:37, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I found a link on Fan's talk page, so I've already seen it. I though that your assignment choices were pretty good, I'm considering adding to my assignment page. I haven't formatted it yet, as I'm planning a graphics competition later for my adoptees. The coolest design will be used on the page, and the winner will also receive a nifty prize (such as a condo, speedboat, or maybe even a presidential office! ;) ). I got the idea from Xiner's page. --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 00:45, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Program

It's a program that tracks someone's income and expenses. It doesn't sound like a big deal to create, but after each run, variables that store the data were deleted, so I had to save the variables to an external file, then load them again on run. Then, I had to keep my arrays and everything organized. The user can also add dates, amounts, and descriptions of the incomes/expenses, so keeping everything where it was supposed to was hard. Would you like to see the coding for it? It's written in VB, so it shouldn't be too hard to understand. --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 21:14, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

I too downloaded perl, but whenever I run the program, it flashes on the screen for about half a second, then it disappears. Should I post the code in my sandbox? --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 21:34, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Here you go. Did I mention that I made it all by myself (my dad's job involves programming)? --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 21:41, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

He's a computer system analyst, which basically means he goes through programs and tries to make them as efficient as possible. He also writes programs for a local hospital so that they can keep track of patient records and the such. The program isn't too complicated, it's just formatted oddly on the "Wikisoftware". --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 21:53, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Yeah! Its cool! But it does look rather familiar... I am applying for vandalproof, but I need more mainspace edits. I guess having only about sixty doesn't count for much. Now, who is the one that told me I need more mainspace edits... Chiefsfan364 (talk) 01:24, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

One Question

How can I make my 60 or so mainspace edits be worth more than twice what they are? Chiefsfan364 (talk) 01:39, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Gotta get off. Sorry! Chiefsfan364 (talk) 01:40, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Huh?

I feel really dumb. I am confused about the whole revert vandalism thing. I already had the monobook thing added in, but I couldn't figure out what it does. Oh, I also purged the cache. How would I find a vandalised article? Chiefsfan364 (talk) 22:43, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Re. Admin Coaching

Erm, yeah, I guess so. At least those criteria don't mention anything about admin coaching. The admin coaching program and the adopt-a-user program may have similarities, but they're not the same, so they don't interfere with each other I guess. Regards, Húsönd 00:46, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Sure! :-) You may wish to create a subpage for your coaching program, perhaps similar to Dgies'. I shall peruse your contributions and make all sorts of comments just as if you were under a current RFA. Also, when in doubt, feel free to ask me about it. The areas where I'm particularly experienced are vandalfight, page protection, WP:AFD and WP:CSD. Best regards, Húsönd 00:58, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

You seem to know a lot of about "_______ of the day" so I'm going to ask you: Has there ever been a Wikiproject Joke of the day? I wouldn't be surprised if it suffered the same death as Espersnza.  ~Steptrip 02:58, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Judging by this google search, I'd say no. But if the pages were deleted, they probably wouldn't show up on the search. --Tewy 03:27, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
Was MOTD ever deleted?  ~Steptrip 14:08, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
As far as I know, this is the history of motto of the day:
 1. Wikipedia:Official Wikipedia motto (redirect page)
 2. Wikipedia:Mottos' Committee (redirect page)
 3. Wikipedia:Motto of the day
If you check the page histories, you can see when pages were to the new names, etc. This might also help you see what has been redirected to Wikipedia:Motto of the day. --Tewy 02:59, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
This may be a bit personal, but did most of these WP edits come from MOTD?  ~Steptrip 03:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I used an extensive number of edits moving obsolete subpages around, discussing what needed done, and doing other tasks needed to organize and revive MotD. A lot of the edits are also for Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates. The tables at the bottom of your link show where I've been most frequent. --Tewy 21:46, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

I didn't quite follow what you were asking, but I think you can add whatever symbol you want, bearing in mind that someone might revert you. :-) SlimVirgin (talk) 21:55, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Zero tolerance...

Just wondering, with reference to User talk:65.93.57.175, don't you think a test4im is a little bit aggressive for a first ever offence? Surely it might just have the effect of aggravating the user even more? And especially in this case, where the user appeared not to be a mindless vandal but someone with a point to make.. perhaps telling them why what they did is unacceptable, rather than a stop hand and one very snappy sentence, might be the way forward... LibLord 22:53, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

The user has since vandalised a further two times, so should you wish to get them blocked you can now. LibLord 22:55, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I got quite confused after I reverted that and went to post a warning myself. You've been doing great anti-vandal work, but... just that one warning ;) --Auto(talk / contribs) 23:09, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
(reply to comment on my user page) that's understandable... I've really wanted to make a uw-bitchslap myself... back to being civil for me! --Auto(talk / contribs) 23:17, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

You should come join the #wikipedia WP:IRC channel. --Auto(talk / contribs) 00:47, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

May I suggest something then?

Why not try utilizing the <noinclude> tag? it saves the problem of people copying wholesale (as they would to impersonate) and yet lets people manually copy things without having to remove the trap (which could be hard for someone new to wikimarkup). -Mask? 00:53, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

deletedpage is meant for articles that have been repeatedly creating in a short-span of time (e.g. 24 hours). Simply tag the article with deleteagain. - Best regards, Mailer Diablo 15:45, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Re:Proposed Archival Solution

Since practically no one has been at MOTD in the past few days besides you and I, I figured that I should make the proposal on your talk page. Should I set up MiszaBot II to automatically archive all MOTD talk pages? Also, should images (e.g. ) be used in votes on nominations? If either one should be done, please inform me, and I will gladly do it.  ~Steptrip 14:36, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

As far as I can see, MiszaBot II wouldn't help very much, because the nominations have to be decided on before they can be archived. All the bot would do is cut and paste the decided nominations to the current archive. Deciding on mottos, adding them to the approved page, and scheduling is the real work. As for the voting icons, I strongly oppose the idea because they would use even more server space than is already being taken up by the giant nominations page and its archives. This might help explain other opinions on the issue. --Tewy 18:19, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
I was talking about the archival of discussions at WT:MOTD and talk subpages at MOTD, not the archival of nominations, and as for the images in votes, they would make it easier when closing a nomination (kind of like what Vanderdecken, Fir0002, and I do at WP:FPC).  ~Steptrip 18:32, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
(I'll continue this discussion of automatic archival on the Motd talk page.) The images aren't necessary to close nominations because (1) the closer should actually take the time to read the comments—not just perform a head count—to determine consensus, (2) a bold Support or Oppose stands out from the other text enough as it is, and (3) the bold Support or Oppose comes first in the comment, so a closer can easily get a rough idea of the consensus by scanning the left side of the page. --Tewy 18:43, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Re. Admin Coaching

Hi again Steptrip. I've just reviewed your past 500 contributions and everything seems alright (or did you want me to comment on some particular contributions?). I've focused mostly on your vandalfight, you've been doing a good job and warning the vandals adequately. What tool do you use btw? Regards, Húsönd 18:34, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Sounds like an interesting idea, although I've just checked the parameters and I'm not sure if Image:Symbol opinion vote.svg is the best choice for weak support/oppose positions... :-/ --Húsönd 18:41, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Your voting template

Hi, I noticed you're using a voting template at WP:FPC like me. Could you consider reducing the image size from 20px to 15px? 20px kind of breaks up the layout of the paragraphs a bit (it's taller than the line of text it's inserted in). If you want, you can just copy the code straight out of my templates (User:Vanderdecken/Support, User:Vanderdecken/Oppose, User:Vanderdecken/Neutral) or use them yourself. Remember to subst: them if you aren't already. See you around. —Vanderdeckenξφ 09:26, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

It should be perfectly acceptable. Don't worry, I stole them from Fir0002 in the first place! It's a good idea, I believe it helps the admins tot up votes more easily - just count the number of green and red circles. All I type for mine is which outputs Support. —Vanderdeckenξφ 13:39, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Support: Damn you! —Vanderdeckenξφ 16:11, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Looking at the code above (edit to see), I think you should definitely include a subst=subst: parameter in that template - four lines of seemingly opposing votes in edit view really isn't handy. And I never really stopped contributing I just... forgot to visit there very often. I'll go back and have another look. I think I just got tired out after I revived the whole thing for a second time. —Vanderdeckenξφ 09:00, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Ah... hard experience has taught me to randomly subst anything I can anyway. :P And yes, I was involved in the initial revival, then I became completely stagnant and I revived it again on my own. —Vanderdeckenξφ 08:04, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Vote symbols

Please stop using vote symbols. The template equivalent has been deleted many, many times, so using the images themselves or transcluding a user subpage is circumventing the consensus of the TfD. Thank you. Picaroon 20:03, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

There have been several, I think; take a look at the deletion log of Support. The objections are that decisions on Wikipedia are made via consensus, not raw voting, and that using these symbols forces things which are supposed to have some semblance of discussions into the mold of votes. In reality, voting is only used occasionally, on large scale things like ArbCom elections, WP:ATT/P, and so on, where lengthy discussion is impractical. Thanks for agreeing not to use them. I've been thinking about some questions for your coaching, but I'm apparently out of fresh ideas for questions. So I was going to suggest Dgies' coaching questions, but would you be able to copy+paste them to your subpage without reading his answers? :-) Húsönd 15:15, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Which doesn't mean that I'm a genius, but I do come up with all kinds of ways to squirm out of responsibilities, (plagiarizing questions, for instance). ;-) Regards, Húsönd 01:37, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Userbox, RfA

Yes, I saw that way to do it on the Wikibreak template, but I wasn't entirely sure on how to do it.

For the RfA, well, I think I already explained to you the past mishap..., so I'll just leave it at that.

The reason I'm trying to cut back on my talking on Wikipedia is because of a comment you posted somewhere (I looked for it, but couldn't find it) saying that the person to whom you were referring needed to get his or her mainspace edit count higher than all other edit count areas (did that make sense?) before he or she put up his or her RfA.

Lastly, I think that in a few months' time, you'll surely be ready for an RfA. Considering how often you're on, and your RC patrol and mainspace editting, I'm sure many people will find yousuitable for the job.

Hope my comments weren't too confusing. --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 17:34, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the link to RFCU. I filled out the forms, hopefully correctly. Spylab 23:57, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Your signature

I'm sure you've already been told this, but your signature is pretty long. The current version (below) is over 300 characters:

~Steptrip

If you can reduce it to something more like 200 characters by using a single color, font, or link, I think that users participating in discussions will greatly appreciate it. Thanks. --Tewy 02:35, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Wow, you seem to be displeased with both of our signatures, even though they comply with policy, however, I have removed some unnecessary parameters and a hyperlink.  ~Steptrip 23:04, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
I like how you removed the link to the tilde, as that wasn't very noticable. If I may make a suggestion, I would remove the custom font face, like so:
 ~Steptrip
(Code):
 <b><font color="#D2691E">~</font><font color="#FF0000">St</font><font color="#FFD700">ep</font><font color="#7CFC00">tr</font><font color="#00FFFF">ip</font></b>
Or have less color variety:
 ~Steptrip
(Code):
 <b>~<font face="Vivaldi" size="3"><font color="#00BFFF">Step</font><font color="#7CFC00">trip</font></font></b>
Try playing around with it to shorten it as much as possible, keeping in mind Wikipedia:Signatures#Customizing your signature. A long signature can become a big problem because other users reading the code to add their own comment will find it harder to follow the actual discussion. Thanks for your understanding. --Tewy 02:02, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
Are you just subst'ing a template? Also, I've created a template that puts links in a box at the bottom of a person's talk page, on a random note.  ~Steptrip 23:07, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
The four tilde (~~~~) way of adding your signature is probably the best. Copy the code to Special:Preferences, and check the "Raw signature" box, if that's not what you do already. --Tewy 02:17, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
I was talking about the messages you gave me and Cremepuff when I said, "Are you just subst'ing some template?" Also, when I was talking about templates, I was referring to Usertalk footer (I do use the 4 tilde way, as well).  ~Steptrip 23:05, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
The wording is about the same because I left the two messages at about the same time, but I didn't use a template. --Tewy 23:41, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Lisa Daniels

Hi, I just saw your post on Jimbo's page on this issue I had raised on March 25th. While I have absolutely no intention to restart the debate (which I consider long resolved), I would like to clarify my role in it, since there seems to be some confusion regarding it in your post ("Instead of bringing this matter, which seems to have resolved itself, onto Jimbo's talk page, you should have just asked alphachimp to apologize on his or yours. He is human (contradictory to his name), and as such, he will make mistakes. If you would not have blasted his character in this manner"). To wit:

 • I did bring up the issue on Alphachimps page and request him to undo the block twice before taking it to Jimbo's page. (See discussion here under section "Lisa Daniels" )
 • I have made my arguments from bringing the discussion to Jimbo's page in my original post there and also on Alphachimp's page, so I won't repeat them here. As far as I am concerned the issue was resolved, once the community looked into the issue and decided that the block without warning was unwarranted and my last post on the topic was on March 26th. (See User_talk:LisaDaniels#Blocked). I have not even been following the discussion since then, hence I saw your post a week late.
 • I never "blasted alphachimp's character", nor was he ever uncivil to me. While, clearly, we have different POV on this particular issue, we both support each others' right to hold the respective opinion without any personal acrimony. See in particular my last post on Alphachimp's page linked above, as well as comments on Jimbo's page itself ("I hope it is clear that I am not attempting to defend reporter Lisa Daniels original actions (I myself am conflicted about that) or even complaining specifically against Alphachimp (since I believe he acted out of sincere conviction, and his views are probably shared by many others)."; "To be frank, I'll be hesitant to propose any action like blocking etc against Alphachimp", "As I have said before, I completely concur that this isn't/shouldn't be about Alphachimp.")

Hope that paints a more accurate picture of the issue for you. Regards. Abecedare 21:00, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

No problem, it was easy to see that this was just a matter of misunderstanding and not ill-intention. I myself was surprised to see that the discussion had not been archived till now and wondered what new points had been raised lately - that's the only reason I even happened to come across your posting. Cheers. Abecedare 00:12, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

"Bad" links

I noticed you were removing "bad" links from the Scotch whisky, and this seemed to be removing or redirecting all the red links. But red links aren't bad, in fact they are how Wikipedia grows. Clearly some things are too trivial for their own articles, but otherwise links should mostly be left. But don't take my word for it, please see this in the Wikipedia Manual Of Style. Thanks! I am, but I usually prefer not to answer questions as most frown upon me for doing so. I've never been in a spelling bee, but I participated in a math bee a couple of weeks ago, in which I got third place individually, as well as team wise. There were 170 students from 35ish schools participating. Don't mean to brag any further, but I was also in a track meet last night, in which our team placed 2nd out of eight schools. I scored 16 of he 99 points we got. I'm done bragging now. :P *Cremepuff222* 00:33, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Remember that template you showed me that generated a random quote (though it wasn't entirely random...)? Re: Randomness

Hi Gurch. I've (well not me, rather Tewy) found a way to improve the "randomness" factor in Qxz-ads. Replace {{#switch: with . I just wanted to gain your consent, since, after all, you created the template. ~ Magnus animum (aka Steptrip) 16:33, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

I've done it myself. I don't really care what it uses, but the wikitext you suggest above would break the template (there's no #expr), and I don't want to be pestered by complaints – Gurch 16:53, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
There's the parser function . ~ Magnus animum 16:56, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I know that. What I mean is, the code you told me to replace it with – – didn't include an #expr:, and so wouldn't work. Thanks – Gurch 17:00, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Hello Steptrip Magnus. This request you made denotes that you might need more preparation with protection requests. I suggest that you start monitoring WP:RPP in order to familiarize with the circumstances under which the protection requests are approved or declined. Regards, Húsönd 01:07, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

I mischecked a box in the twinkleprotect.js edit window which set the request to "full protection" instead of the "semi-protection" that I wanted. ~ Magnus animum (aka Steptrip) 01:19, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Still, this article did not justify semi-protection. It is not uncommon for users to request one kind of protection and the administrator decides another kind. If this article required semi-protection then the admin would semi-protect it even if you had asked for full protection. So you see, you should really have a closer look at the requests placed there. Back to work! :-) Regards, Húsönd 01:28, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
