[edit] Attendance?

Question - the attendance number for 2006 was entered on the 25th of March... for a convention that didn't end until the 26th. Can we really trust that number? It just seems too fishy to me, to suddenly be just enough to match the criteria to be included in the List of anime conventions article. 137.28.246.163 02:44, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

--Well, no you can't. The actual attendance was about 2500. :) Traegorn 06:39, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

Wasn't it named after all the construction on I-494?

--I entered it based on the Chairman's speech at the opening ceremonies, when he said there about 2000 people. I'd always assumed it was named Anime Detour due to the lack of cons in Minnesota. Anyway, the proper edits were made. Gomen ne. ^_^;; Samurai Drifter

Ah - the 2500 number I got was from an announcement by one of their Staff several days after the Convention. Traegorn 22:15, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Total paid attendance was 2,542; warm body count (people who actually came & picked up badges) was 2,464. Both figures are from the count I was given by the Registration Chairwoman right before closing ceremonies on Sunday, and include everyone registered through the time the registration desk closed Saturday night. Wombat socho 01:20, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Those are the same numbers I got approximately, the day after the convention. Because they were loose numbers at the time - and so close to 2,500 - I just put up the approximation. If you think we should replace it with the 2,464 then go right ahead. Traegorn 15:19, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Why Sogen?

Just wondering, but why is Sogen Con's site linked from this article? I mean, I have nothing against Sogen, I go down there to help them out each year, but does it really have anything to do with Detour? --ACDragonMaster 03:34, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

-Because Sogen is mentioned in the article, and is Minnesota's only other anime convention. Samurai Drifter 05:26, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

Wouldn't it just be appropriate to link to the Sogen Con Wikipedia article (if there is one or not) at the Sogen Con reference and leave the exterior link off of the page entirely? Traegorn 05:19, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

-If there WAS one, that would be great. Samurai Drifter 04:39, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

I wonder how we would remedy that? Hmmm? The entire point is to create the link in hopes that someone write the article, isn't it?Traegorn 19:50, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
And now there is a Sogen Con article. Fancy that. :) Traegorn 20:19, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] History?

I've seen this "detailed history" and I have some issues with it. I'm not disputing the FACTS of this portion of the article at all - so don't get me wrong - but there are unsourced quotes in there, along with a writing style not necessarily appropriate to an Encyclopedia entry. Traegorn 01:48, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

I'm willing to own up to the quote about the Thunderbird, and the style as well - this is the first article I've contributed to, for what that's worth. Wombat socho 01:15, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Well, I just think we need to avoid self-referencing. When I rewrote the No Brand Con history - which ironically originally had text ripped from a press release that I had written myself... - I ended up removing quite a few personal references which *I* knew were true, but didn't fit into an encyclopedic style. The idea is to provide the information in a neutral tone - and no matter how cool it seems to you and me, we need to remember that Wikipedia is not here to be a promotional device, but instead a resource for research. Traegorn 15:17, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

I fixed up some of the unencyclopedic wording and did a bit of grammar touch up too. --Crucible Guardian 00:19, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

I've heard rumors that the staff of SogenCon does not get along with the staff of Anime Detour. I also heard that one year at Detour, there was some serious cat-girl bashing that happened because SogenCon's mascot is a cat-girl. I went onto Wikipedia to find the answer to that question. Maybe you could put an article relating to that on the Wiki? SadameMusouka 19:18, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Message from site founder?

When blanking this page, 24.131.176.140 (talk · contribs) left this message:

If you have questions, or comments please address it to the Anime Detour webmaster or information address. Due to the fact that comments made on stage at conventions aren't always 100% accurate, please refrain from updating this wiki without at least consulting with the Anime Detour website team. The point of wiki is to be flexible but yet correct as possible. This is why Operations and website operations are indistinguishable from this founder's perspective. Please consult the convention before updating this wiki. Thank you from the founder, TJ Striker—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.131.176.140 (talkcontribs).

[edit] Question

I am confused why the old version got taken down particularly this part... ""March 2004

Attendance: ~1219[citation needed]

Anime Detour was first help March 2004 by founder Travis Hildebrand (co-founder Jon Hughes resigned as chairman in 2003) at the Airport Marriott in Bloomington, MN. Guests the first year included voice actresses Monica Rial, Carrie Savage, voice actor Kyle Hebert, physics professor and anime fan Dr. Marc Hairston, and founder of AnimeMusicVideos.org Kris McCormic.

March 2005

Attendance: ~1600[citation needed]

Anime Detour moved to the second week in March, and also moved across the street to the Ramada Inn Mall of America. All of 2004's guests returned for a second year and were joined by voice actors Greg Ayres and Travis Willingham.

March 2006

In 2006, pre-registration had grown to 1600 for the same location. More programming was added, featuring author Joan Vinge, local poetess Rececca Marjesdatter, ADV founder Matt Greenfield, New Generation Pictures producer Jonathan Klein, voice actress Tiffany Grant and artists Robert and Emily DeJesus, in addition to returning guests Monica Rial, Carrie Savage, Kyle Hebert, Kris McCormic, and Greg Ayres.""

I dont care about the registration numbers that everyone on here seems to want to piss fight over, I just am curious why the rest of this info was removed? if you just want to make the article a list of guests its a poor wiki since that info can be found on a dozen other sites on the web.

and sorry I screwed up on my first edit :) 24.118.83.33 06:30, 28 March 2007 (UTC)tatsmaru

[edit] Not a billboard

This makes the second time I've removed a promotional link from the history section of the article and restored the cleanup tag in the last two days. Both times the link and the removal of the cleanup tag was done by someone using the username Anime detour (talk · contribs). Weather this is someone related to the convention or just a fan, I don't know. But I like to remind them about avoiding conflicts of interests along with Wikipedia's policies against self-promotion, which is what advocating readers to visit the convention's website for more information does. --Farix (Talk) 21:13, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

- The reason people are being referred to the website is because it is the best source for the convention history. This page is here for the express reason of giving the reader a quick and general look at what Anime Detour is. I have taken on the job of keeping the info up to date as best as possible, but if people want more details, they can look at the home page. Unless you are willing to rewrite the section, leave it be. At the moment the History section works best as a list. Anime detour 20:27, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

- on a side note, I will be more than happy to accept any modification you wish to make, but just telling people to edit it is not the way to go.

This article is here to be an encyclopedic entry on a notable subject. Not to provide a brief overview on behalf of the subject. --Farix (Talk) 23:40, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

- then you fix it, or just delete it and start over. It is as simple as that. Anime detour 02:34, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Page Under Prolonged Construction

Since some people think there are problems with this wiki entry, this page will be under construction until further notice. This means some sections will come and go during the process. If a section vanishes, then there is a good reason, do not revert the edit if it is being worked on. The plan is to improve the flow and reduce "listing" in addition to adding a few images. Anime detour 03:55, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

I've removed the Under Construction tag. If you have something to do in the short term and are actively doing it, fine. But it is not a territorial maker to place long-term inhibition on others freely editing the article. Gordonofcartoon 10:31, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

I am working on reconfirming past and present information (stuff that got deleted and is currently in place). this could take a bit since the whole page is being verified. Before major edits are done I have to be SURE the info is valid. Anime detour 22:50, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] undoing confirmed information.

it would be nice if people wouldn't undo additions that have been officially verified as true. even if it may be for a future event it still is true. Registration for this convention closed at 3000 today and that number will not change. if someone has a problem with it being a future event, then separate the 2008 portion from the PAST section. the info is valid and confirmed through an official source and won't be changing. Anime detour (talk) 22:06, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

There is no reliable third-party source so it is unverifiable at this point. The convention staff can't post information on Wikipedia that hasn't been published by a third-party source. Also, one can't predict the attendance figure of an event before the event is even held. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, again because predicting future attendance is unverifiable. --Farix (Talk) 22:26, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
Then please do not link to this convention until official information from the website itself is accepted. wikipedia will be labeled as unofficial and this convention does not wish to be associated with it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anime detour (talk • contribs) 23:41, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
Please do not arbitrarily remove information from the article that has been verified through reliable third-party sources. Such is considered vandalism by Wikipedia. --Farix (Talk) 00:02, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

again, any information on this page is no longer considered accurate and we request not to be linked. please either remove the links or accept official info. third party sources cannot verify all information since they can take weeks to be updated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anime detour (talk • contribs) 00:11, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, but if you have a publicly available website, then anyone on the web can link to it. That's the whole point of the web: it's a web of links. Additionally, Wikipedia has never claimed to be accurate all on its own. We require reliable, third-party sources for information, and this article only has primary sources. Wikipedia merely reports information which has already been published elsewhere. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 04:09, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
