[edit] Career
Anita Kelsey burst onto the dance scene with style in 1997 winning the UK's coveted MOBO Award for her first album on Dorado Records with Sunship – aka Ceri Evans (prolific UK based producer best known for his work in the UK garage field remixing Craig David, The Artful Dodger, Mis-teeq & most notably the UK#1 single 'You Bring Me Flowers' by Sweet FA). Her next single 'Try Me Out' from the second Sunship album yielded a massive UK club hit and was an Agia Napa anthem of 2001, marking Sunship out as one of the top UK Garage acts. Anita also collaborated on 2 of Dorado label-mate Matt Cooper's Outside albums at around the same time penning the singles ‘If You Come With Me’ & ‘Somewhere New’.
In 1998 Trevor Jones, renowned film composer, asked Anita to perform on the soundtrack to major sci-fi cult blockbuster ‘Dark City’. This resulted in American actress Jennifer Connelly miming to Anita's voice in two prominent scenes as well as the Kelsey rendition of 'Sway' being featured on the end credits. The tracks ‘Sway’ & "The Night Has 1000 Eyes" were included on the film’s soundtrack released on TVT Sountrax. Other major films featuring Anita’s voice include Bring Me The Head Of Mavis Davis and Merlin.
Mainstream commercial success came in 2002 for Anita's collaboration on D*Note's Shed My Skin (Pete Tong's record of the week when it was released) which steamed into the UK & US dance charts at # 7, topping the Belgian dance charts at # 1. The track entered the Belgian national charts staying for 22 weeks, peaking at # 4 and has so far been featured on more than 40 compilations worldwide.
Other collaborations followed, including the track 'Clouds' with Grammy nominees The Latin Project in 2003, Signum with 'Come Around Again' in 2004, Cor Fijneman with 'Healing' 2003, and 'Colourless World' in 2004, Bluefish (aka Evolution) with 'Been Too Long' 2004 and Memento's 'New Life' 2004.
Her own project ToyShop with partner Gordon Hulbert gained recognition in 2004 with their single Million Miles being voted Top Tune in IDJ Magazine/Sure Player in DJ Magazine and was supported by prominent DJs such as Pete Tong, Pete Heller, Timo Maas, Pete Gooding and others. The track is included on Defected's Café Mambo 10th Anniversary compilation. Anita's 2005 track 'Every Kiss' on Extrema Records also featured a ToyShop mix.
In 2004 Anita signed to BMG Music Publishing.
In 2005 Markus Schulz teamed up with Anita to release the single ‘First Time’ On Armada Records in Netherlands. This led to the track being included on Markus’s debut album ‘Without You Near’ along with a second track being chosen ‘Travelling Light’.
In 2006 Anita was approached by dance producer TTLC, aka TDR (Tom de Ridder), to collaborate on electro track ‘Never Ever’. This track was released by Belgian label Mostiko and has culminated in DJ’s such as Judge Jules & Sasha championing the Filterheadz remix (live and on their weekly shows on BBC Radio 1) as well as the Housetrap mix receiving heavy air rotation on Belgian national radio. Anita also wrote for Virgin Records signing 'Lost Witness' whose singles ‘Home’ and ‘Not Coming Down’ were co-written by Anita and performed brilliantly by Tiff Lacey (singer on Paul Oakenfold's Hypnotise).
Her most recent collaboration 'Wicked World' with Dutch production duo Hardsoul resulted in the track being snapped up by Fedde Le Grande to re-mix for his debut album ‘Sessions’ released on Ministry Of Sound 2007.
Anita is currently focusing on writing for artists in the mainstream pop market as well as continuing to write for producers/artists in the dance world. Markus Schulz is due to release his second artist album in 2007 featuring a new collaboration with Anita ‘On A Wave’.
