[edit] Programming
Anime NebrasKon programming is similar to other anime conventions with cosplay events, game shows, anime music video contests, and video game contests, along with a ramen noodle eating contest.
[edit] History
Anime NebrasKon was founded by the members of University of Nebraska-Lincoln's anime club, Otaku Jinrui, in 2004. The idea initially began as a fund-raising project for the club treasury but the members also realized that many anime and manga fans in Nebraska had never been to a convention due to transportation and expenses. The convention was first launched in 2004 as a successful one-day event with 300 attendees.
The convention would return the following year as a much larger convention and included industry guests for the first time. It also expanded from a one-day event to a three-day event. Many of the old, traditional anime convention events remained but the club also introduced new and unique events as well, such as a Science of Anime lecture and the Awesome Rangers (a spoof on the popular sentai Power Rangers).
