[edit] Contributing
With these references at hand, we hope you find it easier to contribute to Wikipedia. Here's a brief synopsis of some ways you can:
- We obviously wouldn't have an encyclopedia without articles. This page shows how you can help them grow.
- Removing vandalism and keeping the integrity of articles intact is a great way of contributing. More information on how to do so can be found here.
- Fixing typos, correcting poor grammar and repairing broken links are just some examples of useful, behind the scenes contributions. Even just making things look nice makes using Wikipedia more pleasant for everybody.
- If you like working with images, you might be interested in the Graphic Lab. Similarly, this page shows you how to work with images in Wikipedia articles.
- This page lists the many types of tasks you can do to maintain Wikipedia.
- There are numerous WikiProjects that aim to provide coordination and collaboration on particular subjects. From this list, you can join a project and contribute within an area that interests you.
Of course, there are many ways of contributing, but I hope that this message is helpful to you, and that you'll enjoy editing Wikipedia and continue to do so. [edit] Talk page edit
You're welcome for the welcome, but why did you erase it here and label it as vandalism? WilliamH (talk) 16:45, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Vandalism?
Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! I saw your note on Colin's talk page. From looking at the history of your contributions, it seems that you, probably by accident, has reverted your own edits as vandalism.
There is a Wikipedia tool called "Twinkle" which is an anti-vandal script which it seems you are using, perhaps by mistake. The red "vandalism" link on history pages will undo the edit as vandalism. If you'd like to remove that tool for now, go to "my preferences" in the upper right corner, "Gadgets" and then uncheck Twinkle.
And don't worry, there's nothing you can do to break wikipedia and any mistaken edits can be quickly restored.
Best of luck! henrik•talk 16:50, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- With Twinkle, options to undo edits appear next to edits made on your contributions list only if the given edit is the most recent edit to an article. Accordingly, "vandalism" next to a recent edit is just an option to undo, and not an indicator of vandalism. This feature is essentially imitative of certain user rights, such as rollback (which I have), which is not an external script but a function built into the Wikipedia code. I fixed all the edits you incorrectly reverted, but I wouldn't worry about using scripts like Twinkle until you've properly learnt the ropes here. WilliamH (talk) 17:45, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
