[edit] Accuracy
The article apparently refers to this Catholic order. Even though the order claims Byzantine heritage, it seems to be only an unsubstantiated "foundation myth", and even they explicitly state in the history section of their site: "the first surviving Statutes of the Order were published in Venice (where the Grand Masters resided) in 1573". As to why and how a Byzantine emperor would create a western-style order, i.e. along lines entirely alien to the political and religious practice of Orthodox Byzantium, it is left unexplained, nor are any sources provided to prove its existence prior to the 16th century (neither did I find any after googling). In fact, it would appear that this order is an Italian creation with no real links to Byzantium whatsoever. Whoever is knowledgeable enough on the subject, please expand the article and clarify the situation. Regards, Cplakidas 22:03, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
