[edit] Happy B-Day to Angela

No, I don't know anymore than any of you whether Angela is still with us or not, but I still thought it would be a nice thing to wish her a happy B-day. It's been on my mind to do this for over a week, as her B-Day was a week ago (busy, busy ...).I believe that even if she really did leave this life, her spirit lives on, and so for that much I now wish her a Happy B-Day.

I was young on the day of July 30th, 1975. I can't remember of course what I was doing on that day!! I guess though that it was either playing baseball, watching cartoons, or trying to make a shot with the basketball at my friend's house. Little could I have known, even if it had been explained to me on that day by an adult, that a special person was born; a baby girl that one day I would conclude is the most wonderous girl my eyes and ears will ever know of(albeit remotely). How terribly sad it is that some 3 decades later, that same person was torn from all of us in such a quick, unexpected and excruciating manner. It is an ending that has been very tough to deal with in so many, many, many ways. A real nightmare ...

Angela, I think I speak for all of us, when I say that we love and miss you very, very much. And we are so very sorry for the pain you went through ...

I should stop now, as this is an Enyclopedia, especially given the fact that I'm not adding any new, verifiable knowledge pertaining to this subject. I hope that this section can stay up though and won't be deleted as it does pertain to, of all things, the subject's birthday. Ontheoffwing 09:35, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fact tag for dead links

I'm a little uncomfortable replacing a reference that's gone dead with a {{Fact}} tag. Anyone not carefully looking over the history might be inclined to remove the material altogether. Wikipedia references books, journals, and other media that are not currently online; isn't there some way to reference the police report while acknowledging that it may not currently be online? --Hyperbole 22:19, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Er, never mind. Good work, Tabercil. --Hyperbole 22:20, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "Importance" or "significance" of adult models/performers inherently subjective

It seems to me that Wikipedia's usual standards threaten to become meaningless when the subject of an article is an adult model or performer. While some are clearly of 'importance' (John Holmes, Linda Lovelace), there are any number of axes along which another model or performer might be judged by her or his fans truly to be significant. This is the same for adult performers as it is for bands, artists, writers, etc. And the mere fact of their fandom ought not to preclude their arguments from serious consideration. They are, after all, much better informed on the subject.

In the case of Angela Devi, one could easily make the case that her mere ethnicity would qualify her, as it is rare enough to have adult performers of Indian/South Asian ethnicity and she was one of the first. But to some people, that's inconsequential and unworthy of inclusion on Wikipedia. Personally, I happen to think it's rather more significant, as it marks the movement of Indians and South Asians into a position in American culture that they had not hitherto occupied, but that's just me. I am also, of course, a fan.

She also had a nearly unique style in her videos, directly addressing the camera in a friendly, flirtatious and unscripted way that seemed not to partake of the usual carefully distanced 'adult performer persona', though how true this was is of course unknowable at this point. The representation itself is worthy of study and note, however, as the movement towards verisimilitude in porn in the Internet age is a note-worthy phenomenon.

Finally, I would argue that the circumstances and even the mystery surrounding her death argue for maintaining the entry on her; several other adult performers have dropped out of the industry by allowing it to be thought that they had died, and perhaps 'Angela Devi' did the same, or perhaps the poor woman actually did kill herself. In any case, the sad story of Angela Devi would seem to constitute additional grist for the mill in the debates about what the porn industry does to the women in it and the social acceptance (or lack thereof) of adult actors/actresses.

Don't know if this is common knowledge or is not, but go to the link: [1] and in in the trivia section you can see Angela listed ... seems Angela had the chance to go beyond a movie such as Three Strikes Ontheoffwing (talk) 08:03, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
