Angus Henderson is a fictional character on the Network Ten soap opera Neighbours, portrayed by actor Jonathan Wood.
[edit] History
Angus met Rachel Kinski (Caitlin Stasey) at the local swimming pool when he debuted on Neighbours. They were instantly attracted to each other, and he later gave Rachel his phone number, when they "bumped" into each other at Charlie's, the bar owned by Stephanie Hoyland (Carla Bonner). He was disheartened when Rachel did not call him, but she later gave him her number instead when they ran into each other again at the General Store, the Cafe owned by Harold (Ian Smith) & Lou (Tom Carpenter).
They went out to a gig together, to get to know each other better. After kissing briefly (instigated by Rachel with the main purpose of avoiding recognition by Elle and Riley, who were also at the gig and would know Rachel is underage), Rachel left the party to catch up on some sleep. The next day when Angus went to Erinsborough High to fill in for Susan Kinski (Jackie Woodburne), he was shocked to discover Rachel was his student. He treated her harshly throughout the day, to later tell her that he needed to do so in order to forget about the girl he met at the pool.
Angus and Rachel's relationship was later discovered by local gossip Jessica Wallace (Heidi Valkenburg), who threatened to tell the entire community about it when she spoke to Rachel during an illegal dance party. When Rachel left to meet Angus, he told her to go away as he knew they couldn't be together. However, Rachel soon returned and was determined not to leave, and they spent the night together.
While she went to Angus's house, Jessica told her best friend Taylah Jordan (Danielle Horvat) that Angus was seeing a student, but wouldn't say who. Later on during the night, the warehouse where the dance party was being held collapsed, trapping several people including Rachel's brother Zeke Kinski (Matthew Werkmeister) and Jessica. Jessica was killed, and Rachel and Angus's affair remained a secret.
However, Angus came under investigation when Dan Fitzgerald (Brett Tucker) caught Bridget (Eloise Mignon) at Angus' house attempting to warn Rachel of his (Mr. Fitzgerald's) impending arrival. However, Bridget lied and said she was returning a book, and eventually came to 'admit' that she had a crush on Angus. However, Declan (James Sorensen) soon realised that Bridget was merely covering for Rachel, and announced as much to Mr. Fitzgerald and a large portion of students in the corridor at Erinsborough High. Mr. Fitzgerald then instigated an investigation into Rachel and Angus.
Rachel was fooled into admitting to the relationship by Mr. Fitzgerald, who whilst interviewing her tricked her by stating that Angus had described her as immature and had explained that their relationship was not meaningful. Rachel then came across Angus in the corridor and began shouting at him in fury and pain - admitting in front of Susan, Libby, Mr. Fitzgerald and an array of students that they had been in a relationship. Angus then informed Rachel that he hadn't told Mr. Fitzgerald anything.
Their relationship, out in the open and pending investigation, has caused much controversy in the Erinsborough community, making headlines in the local newspaper and causing heated debate amongst neighbours.
After failing her attempts to keep Rachel from contacting Angus, Susan ordered Angus to end their relationship and to make Rachel understand that it could not continue. Following her orders Angus invited Rachel to his apartment and told her that he had 'said whatever he needed to get what he wanted.' Rachel stormed out and her relationship with others, especially her stepmother, Susan Kinksi, has been strained ever since. However, she is slowly returning to the Rachel people know and love, putting the affair with Angus behind her.
A recent "Behind the scenes" video on the Neighbours website shows Jonathan Wood on the Neighbours set, and the show has confirmed that Angus will be returning to Erinsborough once he is released from jail.
