Angela "Angie" Russell was a fictional character on the Australian soap opera Home and Away, portrayed by Laurie Foell from 2002 until the character's death in 2003. Angie subsequently appeared as a ghost in her daughter Tasha's dreams.
[edit] About Angie
Angie first arrived in Summer Bay in 2002 as a former flame of Rhys Sutherland. Angie's son, Dylan, had immediately taken a shine to Rhy's daughter Kirsty. Angie later dropped a massive bombshell, revealing that Dylan was Rhys' son from their relationship. This sent shockwaves through the Sutherland family.
Rhy's marriage to Shelley gradually fell apart. In the midst of this Angie, had a relationship with recently released Jesse McGregor and even lied to Detective Mike Carter about Jesse's whereabouts on the night of a murder.
Angie later began playing mind games with Nick Smith, after she had caught him fighting with Dylan. Angie used her feminine wiles to seduce Nick and then reject him. When Nick confronted her in a classroom one day, Angie began screaming and tearing at her clothing, framing Nick for sexual assault.
Even after she dropped the charges, The police still pursued and Nick was found guilty and given community service at a retirement home. The Bay turned on Angie.
Angie's behavior became more erratic and she became more and more unstable. Several incidents included Angie torching Scott Hunter, Dani, Rhys' eldest daughter's boyfriend's boatshed and blackmailed Josh West over his dealing with a local councillor. Justice Morag Bellingham, had prior information about scandal Angie had been involved in at Morag's nephew Duncan's school in the city, but it backfired when Angie took a defamation of character suit against Morag.
Toward's the end of Angie's reign of terror over Summer Bay, Angie discovered Dylan wasn't Rhys' son and worse was to come when Nick with the help of his friends Kirsty, her sister Jade and Seb Miller gained a measure of revenge after videoing Angie threating Nick that he would die with her name on his lips. Following this, Angie's employment was terminated by Principal Paris Burnett.
Several weeks later, Angie's body was found. Viewers learned in flashbacks that the suspects were:
- Dylan
- Rhys
- Dani
- Kirsty
- Jade
- Sally Fletcher
- Jesse
- Nick
- Irene Roberts
- Josh West
Eventually, Dylan confessed to arguing with Angie and then pushing her, causing her death. Dylan stood trial in the city and was acquitted.
Angie made one final appearance in her daughter, Tasha's dream as a ghost.
