Angerstein Wharf

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Angerstein Wharf is a marine construction aggregate and an associated cement facility located on the south bank of the Bugsby’s Reach of the River Thames in the New Charlton area of London in the London Borough of Greenwich operated by the Cemex company.

The wharf was named after John Julius Angerstein a 19th century land owner, investor, businssman and art collector in the area. It is serviced by the 'Angerstein Railway Line' (in 2003 believed to be only used for commercial freight, mainly sea-dredged aggregate landed at Angerstein Wharf) linking the wharf area located on the border between Greenwich Peninsula and Charlton with the main railway network. As a result, an area of former largely industrial land in between a former North Greenwich industrial line and the 'Angerstein Railway Line' both to the east of the present A102 road is sometimes referred to as the 'Angerstein Triangle'.
