Angelika Film Center

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Angelika Film Center is a movie theater chain in the United States that features independent and foreign films. It operates theaters in New York City and Texas.

[edit] Background

The original Angelika Film Center & Café opened in New York City's Soho district in 1989. The Angelika in New York City is the flagship cinema, and in 1997 they opened a theater in Houston, Texas. In 2001, an Angelika opened in the very popular Mockingbird Station in Dallas, Texas and most recently in 2004, an Angelika opened in Plano, Texas.[1]

The Angelika New York has been a hub for independent cinema since it opened, and many filmmakers across the country hold it in high regard as one of the premier places to debut their films.[who?] The theater has six screens. The lobby area houses a fully operational cafe that a lot of neighborhood locals use as a restaurant.

Back in the day,[when?] the Angelika Film Center was used as the set for "At The Angelika", a weekly series distributed by IFC Films.

The Angelika recently launched a blog where they post their own video and written interviews with directors and actors that are involved with the films they show. Most recently they have had Taylor Momsen from Gossip Girl, Jared Leto and old people from the documentary Young @ Heart.

The Angelika Film Center is owned by Reading Entertainment and iDNA, Inc. [1]
