Angela Ahrendts

Angela Ahrendts is an American businesswoman. She is currently executive chairwoman of Burberry.

Ahrendts, who grew up in New Palestine, Indiana, was born as the third of five children of an ex-model. Initially aiming to become a designer herself, she figured out she had more talent for the business side. She graduated as a Bachelor of Marketing and Merchandising at Ball State University in 1981. Immediately after gaining her degree - she stated that she did her exam on one day and took the plane on the next - she moved to New York City where she began her career in the fashion business.

After several jobs and earning a reputation, she took executive positions at DKNY from 1989-1996, Henri Bendel 1996-1998 and Liz Claiborne as a vice chair 1998-2005. In all of these executive positions she excelled managing to grow the brands etc. In 2006 she was chosen for Rose Marie Bravo's successor as the boss of Burberry[1]. In 2006, Ahrendts was ranked #76 of The 100 most powerful women as according to Forbes Magazine.[2]

[edit] Burberry Expansion and Growth

Ahrendts has 'rebranded' Burberry. She has changed Burberry into a luxary brand instead of a brand which 'chavs' used to wear. She has grown Burberry and expanded into new areas while improving other areas. She has changed the purses, added sunglasses and reading glasses, and tried to take Burberry away from overuse of plaid. Ahrendts has also planned on expanding Burberry into a more global company and she is attempting to make Burberry a major brand in the United States

Angela Ahrendts lives in London with her husband Gregg and three children. Her three children attend the ACS Hillingdon International School.
