[edit] Town Centre
The town's thirty-two years of existence can be considered a relatively short lifespan in the context of world history, but in such an oft-changing environment as Singapore, almost anything can be perceived as "old" by many people after merely a few years.
The recent construction of the AMK Hub and other local projects has brought a number of new people to the area. It has an air-conditioned multi-level shopping mall and car park with an interlink to the Ang Mo Kio MRT Station and the re-built Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange. The AMK Hub also hosts a FairPrice grocery store.
[edit] Transportation
Ang Mo Kio is serviced by the Ang Mo Kio MRT Station and the Yio Chu Kang MRT Station. The former is attached to the Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange and both will eventually be connected to the Thomson MRT Line due to be completed by 2020.
[edit] Entertainment
There are two cinemas next the Ang Mo Kio MRT Station. There is the Cathay Cineplex in the AMK Hub and the older Eng Wah Jubilee next door.
[edit] Places of worship
There many temples, mosques and churches scattered all over the estate. Many of each are within walking distance to most residents of the area.
[edit] Education
For many residents living in Ang Mo Kio housing estate, one of the reasons for relocating here is the existence of many schools. It has plenty of kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, as well as junior colleges plus a new information technology college.
Among the many well established educational and public interest outlets is the old Ang Mo Kio Library which has been renovated.
There are five different community centres in Ang Mo Kio offering a variety of classes from wushu and taiji to modern dance and conversational English.
