Well it worked, what's up? I'm guessing writing that at quarter to six in the morning has something to do with it... On the subject of 2, have this:
The RickK Anti-Vandalism Barnstar | ||
for continuously appearing on my watchlist report to, and helping clean up, WP:AIV. Petros471 08:09, 7 July 2006 (UTC) |
Two being the second barnstar I've awarded, the second one you've received (assuming they are all on your userpage), and given two days late (I've been on enforced Wikibreak with my home internet connection in various stages of death), I'm (don't tell!) at work now...
Cheers, Petros471 08:09, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

User warning messages
When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. — FireFox 10:57, 07 July '06
- Ah, in that case you can ignore this :) I just came across some of your edits from about a week ago, so I didn't know you'd already started. Thanks, — FireFox 11:14, 07 July '06
- Well not all templates should be subst'd, {{vandal}} templates take up a lot of space when subst'd so it doesn't matter as much. But {{test}} templates etc are the kind of templates that should always be subst'd. Thanks, — FireFox 11:20, 07 July '06
Usernames
I would suggest posting them to WP:AN/I. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about them until they start to post. There's a proposed proposal up right now that would automatically delete usernames unused after 90 days. And right now, it has overwhelming approval. If it become policy, then as long as the users don't post, it doesn't really matter what their username is. So if the user posts and it's vandalism, post it to AIV. If it isn't, I'd post to AN/I or just ignore them. --Woohookitty(meow) 11:42, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- No. If they say that, they will vandalize. But neither of the ones you posted had names that suggested that they would vandalize. --Woohookitty(meow) 11:47, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- Sort of. :) The vandalism policy does state that you should not add insults to user pages and that it's considered vandalism if you do. I don't know of an admin who wouldn't consider that vandalism. --Woohookitty(meow) 11:54, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- And btw, I did propose a separate page for listing invalid usernames but it was shot down on AN. --Woohookitty(meow) 11:55, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- No problems with that. If it's blatant or a really offensive username, I don't mind. --Woohookitty(meow) 12:07, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Issues with my RfA
You stated some incredulity about my commitment to RC patrolling. Fair enough, I have only participated as a user in RC patrolling once and found it to be not only cumbersome but exceedingly time-consuming. However, I have a friend who is an administrator who showed me how easy it was to do RC patrolling with some of the admin tools. That was delightful. I would be thrilled to have that capability but don't have the time or patience to engage in this activity without said tools. Thanks for your comments! --ScienceApologist 16:31, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- Let me point out a few issues I have with your suggestions: 1) Reading other people's RfAs seems like a waste of time simply because I know what admin tools do and I know why I want them. 2) Fighting vandalism without admin tools also seems like a a waste of my time. Admin tools make the process more efficient. Why should I fumble around and spend a great deal more of my time doing a task that would be expedited with the appropriate tools? It's like telling someone to build a house but forbidding them to use certain tools. --ScienceApologist 15:10, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- Following the "norms" of RFAs should not be requisite for gettting a set of tools. If you can point out something wrong with my requests, please let me know, but apart from some rather uninspired "nomination too short", I haven't seen any real criticism. I think I understand what's going on perfectly well. I've done all the vandalism patrol I can stomach without the tools. You can sort through my edits to find where I placed messages on user pages and did the whole bit. I don't have patience to go through this without admin tools and don't see why I should when the tools are there to make the process easier. --ScienceApologist 15:51, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Edit Count Userbox
Thanks for leaving the 300 edit count userbox on my user page some time ago (a week or so, i believe). Just thought I'd let you know that I recently had the pleasure of updating that to 1000 edits, and as a result am clearly suffering from Editcountitis :( I've also received a barnstar for my anti-vandalism efforts and made about three hundred more reverts, plus dealt with excessive vandalism, sock puppetry etc. on Simon Hackett (check the history and the users in the history list). --Draicone (talk) 06:22, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Not quite vandalism per wikipedia:vandalism.Geni 11:47, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- Not quite. The defintion of vandalism is pretty narrow. while I could probably block him for dissruption I'd have to look inot the case properly for that.Geni 11:52, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- Just to drop by from your latest report, I can't see much blatant vandalism- the most recent edits after your final warning have been on own userpage, and adding of POV tags without reasons might be disruption (as Geni pointed out above) but not vandalism. If I remember rightly (I've had it hidden via css for quite a while) the header on AIV says not to re-ad a report removed by an admin but rather take it to WP:ANI. If I get time later I'll try and take a look for myself. Petros471 12:08, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- But while I wrote this looks like another admin had more sympathy to your cause ;) Petros471 12:10, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Re: Bots with AWB
Well, it's not so much a clone you could run, as it's simply AWB with certain settings to make it do certain things. All you need to do what I am doing is a new account (for the bot), then you need to get permission here, and then just set up the bot with the settings you need to make edits such as subst:'ing, which is simple find and replace. Thanks, — FireFox 16:10, 08 July '06
- It's not that complicated. And yes, I run it on the same computer as I am editing on now, both accounts can run at the same time. — FireFox 16:17, 08 July '06
ClubCalibra.com
I am not trying to be awkward here, I am simply providing users of Wiki with a site that is genuinely linked entirely to the subject of the Calibra, my site IS the biggest site on the internet completely devoted to the Calibra, whether it be Vauxhall, Opel or Holden, my members are of an internal base.
The site is NON PROFIT and free to join and contains a massive range of features, from Gallery (hundreds of Calibra pictures), Events across Europe, Chat Rooms, FAQ's (for servicing and maintenance) etc etc.
Why does ApolloBoy keep removing my site as an External Link, a users who knows absolutely nothing about the Calibra, and being based in the USA, where the Calibra was NEVER introduced, nor shipped.
I would appreciate your help here, here is the email I just sent onto him...
Yes I did visit the link, and responded appropriately - the engine is based on a forum YES but it is not your traditional site of just discussion, its based on a similar engine but its a website featuring a majority of options that a forum wouldn't generally have. Lots of FAQ's, Full Gallery, Chatroom, Calibra Member Map, Events, Free Shop (for fun!), and Calibra Classifieds. We even arrange events for Calibra enthusiasts across Europe!!
If you have a genuine interest in the Calibra, please feel free to register and join the chat with true Calibra fan's, they'll all tell you just how important the site is to the Calibra industry.
Wiki is for those with an interest in cars, my site is the LARGEST Calibra ONLY focused website on the internet - therefore it is of interest to any owner of a Calibra, is it ranked first in Google proving that its content is relevant (even Vauxhall/Opel/Holden's website don't appear under the search!).
I really don't get your problem here unless you have so much time on your hands and lack a social life to the point where you have to niggle and pick over a car you don't frankly have a clue about.
Perhaps devote your time to a real cause, removing dud links, such as the link on the Opel Calibra page that USED to link to a Calibra Sales page (is that not commercial...duh??), and a site that now appears to be down and yet the link remains?
Come on dude, whats the real problem here?

Thank you for your reply, but I have discussed this with ApolloBoy on numerous occasions, I just don't quite understand his problem with the link. External links are to provide users with additional information, my site is the largest on the internet, its non commercial, its number one in google when searching for 'Calibra' (please give it a go), Google are a very good judge of relevance!! I'm new to Wiki and appreciate that there are guidelines and policies, but ApolloBoy (who hasn't ever even driven a Calibra!) appears to have a personal issue here. Please can you help? I have little knowledge of how to proceed besides adding my link, but I respect the Three Edit rule. Pleaseeeee help? Cheers, Ash |

...and may I add that ApolloBoy only just removed an external link that I actually directed him to, it was advertising used Calibras for sale, now surely thats commercial and therefore disallowed and yet it has remained until I pointed him to it? I'd appreciate your help. Cheers, Ash |

large number of AfDs
Thanks for your words about the number of AfDs I have submitted recently. I have been reviewing the articles listed by month on the WP:WIKIFY page. I PRODed a bunch from March at the begining of the month, but have since reverted to AfD starting with the June (working from Z backwards). I open the articles and review them. They all need work, so formatting can be a bit of a difficulty, but I generally give people the benefit of the doubt when they created the article. I look at the edit history (how long has it been around, how many editors[usually only one with these articles] and the editor's history), I check what links to the article and use the choice of language (we, I, over the top claims). I rarely do much "independent" reasearch, but will hit google and company web pages. I know there is a lot more in these WP:WIKIFY inventories that could be nominated if I was willing to be more bold, do a little more research and less benefit of the doubt. Again thanks.--Gay Cdn 12:05, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

RfA action
Hello Andy. Glad that you noticed my recent RfA spree, and yes, the two-day backlogs (around 1000-1500 images) that need to be cleared out on a regular basis is making me feel guilty and dispirited about my performance as an admin. Anyway I hope things will improve, but now that Kimchi.sg (who was averaging 125+ deletes per day) is also needing a break, things may get worse. Blnguyen | rant-line 02:13, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

User page vandalism
Hey, thanks for catching and reverting the vandalism to my user page. Much appreciated, Gwernol 11:01, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
Page protection
I saw that you removed the {{sprotect}} tag from Zinedine Zidane earlier. Just for future reference, remember that the tag itself doesn't affect page protection in any way – it's there to tell people why they can't edit and to let the community better keep track of which pages are and aren't protected. Check the logs of Zinedine Zidane, and you'll see that it's been semi-protected since 19:20, 10 July 2006, when Samuel Blanning protected it with the rationale, "still being vandalised every few minutes by different IPs."
Page protection and unprotection is done through a special feature only administrators can access. Adding and removing tags is only for informational purposes, and a useful one at that. — Rebelguys2 talk 14:38, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

About Your Edit to My Page
Sir, sir, forgive me, but I did not edit in that ridiculous statement proclaiming that Slade75, whoever he is, is the greatest in RuneScape! My name is Kittyphantom, and I assure you, I have never heard of this Slade75. You see, I was editing in information on character animations, when i received a message stating that someone else had edited the message during the same time I had, causing an editing conflict. I shrugged and merged in the entire edited text, not noticing the fact that some black-heartened fiend had vandalized the page... In any case, it counted as my editing, and I received the blame! Please, sir, I assure you, I did not do this!—Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.42.16.221 (talk • contribs)

I appreciate your positive approach
And I think you have aquitted yourself admirably with my disagreement. I want to emphasize -- I am 100% behind your good efforts to keep wikipedia cleaned up. You and I are, evidently, both strong supporters of the idea of wikipedia and want it to succeed -- no, not just succeed but thrive! And also, I think your edits show you to be a person of quality as well. Someone with a what I would call a "moral compass". I have no problem with that, though other wikipedians probably do. So, I sincerely wish you well! I believe, despite my objection in this instance, you will be approved this time. If not, let me know the next time you are nominated and I will almost certainly support at that time because in addition to all of these good things, I believe you will have a little bit more experience under your belt handling the weird folk like me who do not always quite fit into the normal box. If we should meet again on the project, I hope you will consider us mutual contributors and not combatants or enemies. I know that is how I feel. --Blue Tie 02:15, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
