[edit] Extinct animals
Hi, you seem to be tossing everything from the great auk to mammoths to dinosaurs into your new Category:Extinct animals — and I think a lot of that is already duplicated by the Category:Fossils (and its sub-cats, like Category:Prehistoric reptiles, and Category:Prehistoric mammals).
It's usually best to put something in the most specific category that applies (otherwise categories get overwhelmed by thousands of entries) so putting Category:Fossils into Category:Extinct animals should cover the really dead stuff. :) (See also: Conservation status and Wikipedia:WikiProject Tree of Life if you haven't already). 68.81.231.127 18:05, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Vandalism
SUre, no problem. Vandalism is something that affects us all sooner or later, but if we revert quickly then it defeats the point of being a vandal. In other news, you might want to change your hurricane Katrina to hurricane Rita ;-) Just a thought. Anyway, thanks for the recognition--Xiphon 14:09, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
You are welcome. Don't mention it. Cheers. -- PFHLai 22:25, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Classic Rock
Hello. I was wondering if you would like to participate in my classic rock survey. I'm trying to find the most liked classic rock song. There is more information on my user page. Hope you participate! RENTASTRAWBERRY FOR LET? röck 02:59, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Sources for List of the largest artificial non-nuclear explosions
Hello, good work on List of the largest artificial non-nuclear explosions, and thanks for the contribution. However, you did not provide any references or sources in the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. Can you list in the article any websites, books, or other sources that will allow people to verify the content in List of the largest artificial non-nuclear explosions? You can simply add links, preferably as the inline citations, or see citation templates for different citation methods. Thanks! Lupin|talk|popups 00:36, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Xmasbox
First of all, thanks for the
Christmas box, I was about to create one, but I found yours.
I won't edit, your user page, but is there any chance, that you could edit the box to This user wishes everyone here a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year for 2006., to fit into the style, of the other wikipedia user boxes Brian | (Talk) 05:34, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
- Could you also create a This user wishes everyone here happy holidays and a prosperous New Year for 2006 and/or a Hanukah box? I would do so, but I do not know how, and I would like a non-religion specific userbox on my userpage. Thank you in advance,--Akako|☎ 01:45, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee Elections January 2006/Vote/Mindspillage
I just thought you would like to know this edit shows an anon voting in your name. I am almost certain that the edit was made by an imposter, the IP address is very similar to others where malicious edits have come from recently, but if it was not you will need to re-add your vote (remembering to sign in, of course). [edit] Favorite Songs
My survey has changed. I am now continuing my mission for the best songs, but now I am accepting all genres. I'm giving you a chance to revote for your top ten favorite songs of any genres (not just classic rock which is still the best). I've made a executive decision to keep the existing survey results and just add on to that with the new entries. My feeling for doing this is because classic rock is the most influential genre in music currently so it should be expressed more in the survey. Thank you for contributing in the past, and hopefully in the future. ROCK ON. RENTASTRAWBERRY FOR LET? röck 03:22, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Userbox switch
You are very welcome...though it does change the actual number of userboxes used...you now have only 40 instead of 42 userboxes. Also, I didn't see the time zone userbox that needed to be changed out with the new master template. You might want to take a look at it to see which options you wish to have. Have a nice day. - LA @ 11:47, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:London2012.png
Hello, Andrewh. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:London2012.png) was found at the following location: User:Andrewh/Archive. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 05:59, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Bulleted list problem?
- N.B.: Copied from Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) to my talk page for future reference. Andrew (My talk) 14:21, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
I have noticed that carriage returns in bulleted lists are currently being counted as separate lists when using templates. Below is an example.
In this list, the subitems (except the first) appears with two bullets (they weren't before). However, I can remove the superfluous bullet by removing the carriage returns:
I noticed this in the External Links in the Covent Garden tube station article, which I fixed. Is this happening with anyone else? Andrew (My talk) 16:04, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- It always happens to me on Firefox, and never happens to me on IE. The carriage returns in such a list are supposed to split it into separate lists from the software's point of view. (It also happens with the other sorts of lists, including definition lists (:) which are used on talk pages, but the effect is only obvious with bulleted and numbered lists.)
- Some more examples:
-
- An indented definition list
-
- using double spacing (the HTML is wrong, but it looks reasonably right)
-
- A numbered list
- using single spacing
-
- but with a double space before this line
-
- A bulleted list inside a definition list
-
- with a carriage return between each line
-

- As you can see, there are all sorts of problems caused by these sorts of things; some show up in Firefox, and some show up in Internet Explorer. In some cases, the HTML is 'wrong' but all browsers I know of show it correctly anyway. --ais523 16:27, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- (If you're wondering; IE has a double-size break inside the bulleted list inside the bulleted list, and a really massive break before the 11-times-indented line; Firefox shows 11 bullets on the 11-times-indented line and 2 bullets on each of the bulleted-inside-bulleted lines, and both browsers go back to 1 for the third element of the numbered list.) --ais523 16:31, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- Fixed. The template you were using contained an extraneous linebreak which caused the parser to decide each bullet was a separate list.
- As for those other problems User:ais523 mentioned, I've never had much trouble as long as a few points are remembered:
- Don't put blank lines in the wikitext in the middle of the list.
- To insert a linebreak in the middle of a numbered/bulleted list item, use <br /> (without a linebreak in the wikitext) to avoid starting a new list item.
Like this. Comments can be used to hide the wikitext-linebreak if you really want a wikitext-linebreak in there. - When nesting, repeat the preceding formatting. So for the "10 colons, 11 stars, 12 colons" example above, this should "work":

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:FM_Towns_Marty.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:FM_Towns_Marty.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 23:00, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Swanage Railway Works
Your tidy up the diagram on this article was fair enough mostly: however, the status of Swanage Railway works is not an error. Due to an inability to agree terms with local landowners the works are not at present connected to the railway. I've used a "Legende" marker for them to try to stop this understandable error from happening again (I did the same thing myself some time ago). Britmax 14:04, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hey, that's okay . I just thought it made the diagram look untidy, but if the works aren't linked, then it's better to keep the diagram accurate and keep the works separated from the rest of the line. I may read through the article and add your information into it if it's not there already. Andrew (My talk) 17:11, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
