[edit] Welcome

Hello, Andrewgrill, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Don't hesitate to ask me a question on my talk page if you feel you need help, especially with articles like Seeker Wireless. —Vanderdeckenξφ 18:15, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Andrew Grill may not be sufficiently well-known to merit articles of their own. The Wikipedia community welcomes newcomers. On Wikipedia, all users are entitled to a user page in which they can describe themselves, and this article's content may be incorporated into that page. However, to merit inclusion in the encyclopedia proper, a subject must be notable, with reference to reliable published sources. We encourage you to write or improve articles on notable subjects. I use the term "vanity bio" in my PROD tag. And you know what? I chose to use the term. I meant to use the term. I stand by the term. Calling a spade a spade and all that. --Calton | Talk 12:18, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

And I defend your right to say whatever you like - it was just not very professional or consructive.

I am claiming notability via the alternate test by the "search engine test" method.

[Wiki Search Engine Test for notability]

Please feel free to try this should you then argue this test fails then I'm happy to move the page to the user page but my 1st experience of Wikipedia has not been very nice - thanks for the warm welcome!

Please understand that the deletion process, nor our notability guidelines are not an attack or reflect on you personally, and I hope you dont get discouraged. Wikipedia has literally thousands upon thousands of new articles submitted everyday, and as an encyclopedia we do have to maintain strict guidelines as to what is acceptable and what is not.

As such we do have a fairly rigid deletion process for articles that do not meet these guidelines, and with the hundreds upon hundreds of articles that dont qualify we cut the the point rather quickly, and I can see how this can be frustrating.

Please read WP:BIO, this explains exactly why we stronly recommend users dont write their own articles. Please feel free to ask me anything about the process, and thank you for your contributions :) Glen 12:44, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

And thanks for being nice about it - a change from the previous editor.

[edit] Age category

Hello! If you are receiving this message, that means that your user page is in a specific year category. Per a recent user-category per deletion, all specific year categories are to be deleted. If you wish to continue using year categories, you have two options:

  • Using an age group category, such as Category:Wikipedians in their 30s
  • Using a decade category, such as Category:Wikipedians born in the 1970s.

If you wish, you may do both. Hopefully, this change in categorization will be quick and painless. Happy editing! --An automated message from MessedRobot 12:37, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
