[edit] Dates

AFAIK the A&K was chartered on 28 May 1845 already (Several Poor's Manuals (e.g. 1878) show that date). The route was not opened in Jan. 1850 but in two segments in 1849:

  • 3 July 1849 to Winthrop, Maine,
  • 27 November 1849 to Waterville.

If there are any sources for the dates in this article here, please include them in the article text. Otherwise the article doesn't have any use... Grtx, --Thogo (Talk) 21:21, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

I replaced a reply on my talk page regarding your question. I'm not 100% sure but I recall that the source I was reading had stated construction was still ongoing in 1849 and I wasn't sure when it was completed, therefore I said by January 1850, the system was open and running. I'll have to check which publication I had read from - this was back before I began referencing facts such as this during my edit sessions. Feel free to insert these specific dates or I can do so - what would the specific reference be? Plasma east 11:54, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
Oh thanks. The reference would be Poor's Manual of Railroads 1860: Chartered, 5/28/1845. Construction started, 7/1847. Danville Junction to Waterville, Maine, 55.00 miles. First Division: Danville Junction to Winthrop, Maine, 20.00 miles, opened, 7/3/1845. Second Division: Winthrop to Waterville, Maine, 35.00 miles, opened, 11/27/1849.
