I don't quite understand the sentence Tychonoff originally published in German, whence the transliteration. I assume it refers to the fact that the name is spelled with -ff rather than -v. But I think the transliteration -y- for -и- is very atypical for German; it seems to come from a French transliteration. --Aleph4 14:53, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
