Talk:Andrea Casiraghi
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Should Andrea become sovereign, would Monaco be ruled by the House of Casiraghi?
- While it is entirely correct that in English and French speaking nations, the surname of the father is used. Andrea would most likely choose a double barrelled name eg: Grimaldi-Casiraghi.
-
- In fact, several men who married into the Grimaldi family, including Jacques-François de Goyon-Matignon and Pierre de Polignac, have changed their surnames to Grimaldi to ensure the continuation of the line (see Duke of Valentinois). Though Andrea was born a member of the family, it seems more probable to me (though I have no outside source) that he would do the same. — Dan | Talk 18:03, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

- Jacques-François-Léonor Goyon de Matignon (1689-1751, father of Prince Honoré III) and Pierre de Polignac (father of Prince Rainier III) never in fact changed their names. They married the sole (female) issue of a reigning Prince of Monaco, and their male offspring then adopted the dynastic surname of Grimaldi. In genealogy this is called heritage by substitution. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.206.122.30 (talk) 02:56, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
