[edit] Andrés or Andréas?

An anon changed the name to "Andréas Escobar". I reverted it, however when googling i get more hits on Andrés but also quite many on Andréas. Why? bbx 04:46, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Alan Hansen incident

I have changed the paragraph that said:

The Scottish football pundit Alan Hansen was forced to apologise after stating in his post-match analysis that "the player ought to be shot for making a mistake like that", a (perhaps worryingly) common expression in Britain.

The only published reference I could find was this 2001 article from the Guardian which has the quote as "the Argentine defender wants shooting for a mistake like that" and puts the apology 24 hours after the shooting. Presumably this was in the match between Romania and Argentina on 3rd July (listed on Football World Cup 1994). If anyone knows any more or has more references please correct it. -- Andy Smith (talk) 20:48, 1 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] It was never proven that the murder was the result of his own goal

I changed the first paragraph in the part that states that Andres was killed because of the own goal scored by him. This was never proved and the murder was the result of a fight in a bar where more people were wounded. OM

[edit] play-by-play men

What does this expression mean?

[edit] POV

The article is completely about his death, and nothing said about his football. After all, he was an international footballer and deserves some recognition that he actually played football, such as a factfile of where he played. I will try to find something myself, but it would be nice if someone contributed to his article about his football. Richard n 14:25, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

I included an info box and all the info I was able to find, which is a little tough, if you do not speak Spanish. I am still unsure when he debuted for Colombia. This page seems to say that he took part in the Copa America 1987. However, I found the Colombiam roster for that tournament and it only lists an Alexander Escobar.[1]--Gavin1234 16:02, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Another thing I am not sure about is whether he won a second Colombian championship in 1994. Nacional won the title in that year, was Escobar dead by then?--Gavin1234 16:06, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
