Andy Wear is an Australian artist based in Hobart, Tasmania. Born in 1971, in Rockhampton, Queensland, Wear moved to Tasmania in 2005.
His art practice is concerned with the relationship between political/philosophical text and visual representation. After a number of years performing in bands in Brisbane (Grim Rippers, Greenacres, Cool), Wear pursued a solo career, during which time he performed at a number of festivals and as support for a number of well known acts, perhaps most notably the first reunion show with Grant McLennan and Robert Forster of the Go-Betweens. After a seven-year hiatus, Wear has resumed performing, although during this time he has actively been recording lo-fi, four-track songs at home, many of which are available on his website (see external links). He released a five song, limited edition EP, available only on vinyl, titled "Demonstration Extended Play Record #1" in September 2007. Wear is currently writing a PhD thesis in Philosophy at the University of Tasmania. His thesis is titled "Interdiscourses: Art, Adorno and Aesthetics"
