Levin began his career as an advocate for nursing home workers in Michigan, and also worked for the AFL-CIO.
[edit] 2006 Election
Levin ran unsuccessfully for the 13th District Senate Seat in Oakland County, losing the election to former State Representative John Pappageorge. The race was close with Pappageorge edging out Levin by only 776 votes.
It was reported that Levin was hurt both by the fact that he had recently moved back to the Metro Detroit area from Washington, DC and a perceived nepotism on behalf of some voters. Some speculation centered around whether Green Party candidate Kyle McBee's share of the vote can be attributed to a left-leaning protest vote for these reasons.
