Andy Ferrell (born 9 January 1984 in Newcastle upon Tyne) is an English footballer who plays for Kidderminster Harriers as a central midfielder. He played in Football League Two for Hereford United during the 2006–07 season.
[edit] Career
Ferrell began his career in 2003 as a trainee at Newcastle United[1] but was released at the end of the 2003-04 season without making an appearance for the first team although he had impressed for the reserves, scoring 11 goals in 21 starts.[2][3] He signed a one-year contract with Watford in July 2004,[2] where he made two appearances in the League Cup in the 2004-05 season,[1] scoring the winning goal in the first round against Cambridge United.[4] He made no other appearances for Watford and left the club at the end of the season when his contract was not renewed.[5]
After trials at Darlington, Forest Green and Hereford United,[6] Ferrell signed for Hereford United in August 2005.[1] In his first season with the club, he was a regular in centre midfield, making 38 appearances and scoring two goals in all competitions as Hereford reached the National Conference play-off final and won promotion to the Football League Two in May 2006.[7] He signed a new one-year contract in April 2006 to keep him at Hereford for the 2006–07 season.[8] In his second season with the club, his first in league football, he was in and out of the starting eleven, making 27 leagues and cup appearances,[9] but scored in a notable win over League One side Port Vale in the FA Cup.[10]
With the return of Ben Smith his first team opportunities were limited and he was loaned to Kidderminster Harriers in March 2007 for the remainder of the 2007–08 season.[11] However he picked up a groin injury in his first game, which ended his season prematurely.[12] He was released at the end of the season and subsequently signed for Kidderminster on a permanent deal.[13] He made 42 league and cup appearances for Kidderminster in the 2007–08 season[14] and signed a new one-year contract in May 2008.[15]
