[edit] Character history on General Hospital

Detective Andy Capelli was just a cop trying to keep the streets of Port Charles safe. Andy surely gets a workout, since so many citizens of Port Charles tend to take the law into their own hands so often!

Capelli stepped in at the Port Charles Police Department when Detective Alex Garcia transferred out of state in 2001. Capelli often worked on cases with Detective Marcus Taggert, and they were both fooled by Lucien Cain when they found him bound and gagged at Wyndemere, home of the gothic Cassadine family. Lucien claimed he was being falsely imprisoned, and once Capelli and Taggert released him, he killed innocent Chloe Morgan and framed Stefan Cassadine for the crime! Lucien Cain was really evil Stavros Cassadine, who had a habit of murdering whoever got in his way!

Capelli had concerns when a cloaked avenger began brutally punishing criminals in Port Charles in the summer of 2002. It turned out that an evil spirit had inhabited EMT Frank Scanlon and The Avatar was taking the law into his own hands, deciding who would be served justice and exactly how much of a dosage they'd get!

Capelli shares Detective Taggert's hope that the streets of Port Charles will eventually be free of Sonny Corinthos and Jason Morgan, and with Andy Capelli on the case, Sonny and Jason had better watch their backs!

Somewhere along the way, Detective Capelli put into effect the old notion of "if you can't beat them, join them!" Andy was revealed in 2003 to be on the take and supplying notorious Lorenzo Alcazar with information, while also acting as Alcazar's personal hitman!

Jason's investigation of the Cassadines revealed to Stefan and Nikolas that they'd indebted themselves to the notorious Lorenzo Alcazar. Alcazar put his personal hitman Andy on the case, and in a scuffle with Stefan, ended up burning up half of Stefan's face.

In February 2004, District Attorney Ric Lansing was left to organize a rescue mission when the Port Charles Hotel's new security system proved too powerful for the building's old wiring to support. The result was an electrical fire which threatened the lives of nearly everyone in Port Charles!

Dozens of Port Charles citizens were trapped in the Versailles room, where they awaited helicopter rescue as the rest of the hotel burned down around them. Learning that the fire originated in the basement of the hotel, Nikolas Cassadine feared that he may have left Zander Smith to burn to death.

Helicopters couldn't land while the strong winds were gusting. Skye Quartermaine and Luke Spencer found Detective Brian Beck in an abandoned room, bleeding to death of a gunshot wound! Luke and Skye got Brian to the Versailles room, where chaos ensued over who would leave first on the rescue helicopters. Luke took charge and organized a lottery system where everyone would leave in the order of the numbers they drew from a bowl -- no trading or selling of numbers.

The patrons gradually were evacuated by helicopter, but when Brian identified a man in a hooded sweatshirt as his latest shooter, Ric and Capelli considered that to be a positive ID of Jason Morgan! Capelli insisted on taking Jason down through the building, instead of on the rescue helicopter. Ric was apprehensive about trusting dirty cop Capelli, but once Sonny pushed Ric's buttons, Ric allowed Capelli to deny Jason's seat on the helicopter. Jason complied, as long as his seat went to Courtney Matthews.

Capelli then left Jason handcuffed to a burning stairwell, and then lied that Jason had tried to attack him and Capelli was forced to leave him in what Capelli considered to be a safe zone. Capelli took a seat on the final helicopter, leaving no room for Nikolas Cassadine, who was still on the Port Charles Hotel roof when the building exploded! Nikolas and Jason were both thought dead, and their blood would have been on Ric's hands. Courtney was relieved when a very much alive Jason emerged from the smoke!

[edit] Death

Unfortunately, Jason still faced charges of murder when Brian Beck died of his gunshot wound. To prove his innocence, Jason goaded Capelli into a standoff in the woods, getting Capelli to confess to shooting Brian in an effort to frame Jason. Capelli didn't know that Jason had Ric on a cell phone, and Ric heard the whole thing! Capelli and Jason struggled for a gun, and Capelli was shot and killed, but Ric ruled the death as self-defense, and no charges were brought against Jason.
