[edit] Youth

At the age of thirteen Andy Bolton decided that weight training was what he wished to do, this was after seeing some youths in the local youth club lifting weights. Andy Boltons father was not too keen on Andy lifting weights at such a young age so monitored Andy's lifting carefully to ensure he did not lift too much.

It was not until Andy was 18 years old that his father let him move forward and start to lift heavier weights on a full training regime.

[edit] First Competitive Win

Andy Bolton won his first competitive competition in 1991 when he was twenty one years of age, this competition was a local powerlifting event called the Yorkshire Junior Championship.

[edit] Current Records

He is the current World Powerlifting Organization three-lift world record holder (1273 kg/2806 lb).[1] Bolton also holds the current WPO world records in the squat (550.5 kg/1213 lb) and deadlift (455 kg/1003 lb)[1], and was the first to demonstrate a deadlift of over a thousand pounds.[2]

Bolton has also competed in strongman contests. His strongman accomplishments include placing fifth in the 2002 Arnold Classic Strongman Competition.[3]
