Andrist is a Swiss family name with proof of family vital records at least back to the 16th century. Places of origins (rights of citizenship) are known from Simmental, Canton of Berne. Based on Schweizerisches Idiotikonn (Dictionary of Swiss Dialects and historic language) Andrist is a folksy version of 'Andreas' (Engl. Andrew). There is also a branch of the family name that may originate from the Lombardy region named Andrista, Cevo, Italy.

There are two mountains called Andrist in Switzerland, Bernese Oberland, Kiental. The first one's name is "Wild Andrist" (means 'wild Andrist'), altitude: 2849 m asl, the other is called "Zahm Andrist" (means 'tame Andrist'), altitude: 2648 m asl.
