Andrew Upton

Andrew Upton (born c. 1966) is an Australian playwright, screenwriter, and director.
As a playwright, Upton penned adaptations of Hedda Gabler, The Cherry Orchard, Cyrano de Bergerac and Don Juan (with Marion Potts) for the Sydney Theatre Company (STC)[1] and Maxim Gorky's The Philistines for London's Royal National Theatre.[1][2] His original play Riflemind[3], with Hugo Weaving as an aging rock star planning a comeback tour, opened at the STC on 5 October 2007[4] to favourable reviews[5]. For 2008, Upton has been appointed as the STC's artistic director.
In 1999, Upton wrote and directed Bangers which starred his wife, Academy Award winning actress Cate Blanchett. In 2006, he wrote the film Gone which was directed by Ringan Ledwidge. He wrote the libretto to Alan John's opera Through the Looking Glass which premiered in May 2008.
With his wife, Cate Blanchett, Upton has formed Dirty Films to develop feature projects. [2]
Upton and Blanchett were married on 29 December 1997. Their first child, Dashiell John, was born on 3 December 2001; their second child, Roman Robert, was born on 23 April 2005; their third son, Ignatius Martin, was born on 13 April 2008.
