From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Andrew "Andy" Skurka is the first known person to completely hike the 7,770 mile Sea-to-Sea trail; from Cape Gaspe, Quebec (bordering the Atlantic Ocean), to the Olympic Peninsula (bordering the Pacific Ocean); on August 6, 2004.[1]. The hike across North America was completed in 339 days by thru-hiking from east to west, using several previously disconnected trails in the United States and parts of Canada. He was named Backpacker Magazine’s “Person of the Year” in 2005.[2] Skurka graduated from Duke University.
In 2007, Andrew Skurka became the first, and only person so far, to complete thru-hiking the Great Western Loop.
