Andrew Johnston is an English boy soprano who rose to fame when he finished in third place, on the second series of the television talent show Britain's Got Talent.

[edit] Britain's Got Talent

Andrew Johnston auditioned for Britain's Got Talent with the act of singing. He got through the first audition.[1] He then went on to make it through to the semi-finals, and won that night's public vote.[2] He subesquently made the top-three in the final, losing out to the winner street dancer, George Sampson, with dance group Signature in second place. He left the stage in tears after being the favourite to win.[3] However he was comforted by George, expressing a clear friendship between the two-finalists.

During his initial audition, he claimed that he was bullied. During the show Johnston said that if he won, he would beat the bullies, which he believed he did after the bullies wished him luck. After the show Johnston said that he would keep on singing[4]. His statements and the accompany commentary suggested that his continuing with singing was contingent on his success in the show. In fact he has been a cathedral chorister since the age of eight.

The day after the final, Max Clifford who works as publicist for Simon Cowell said that it was "quite possible" that Cowell would be signing some of the finalists including Johnston.[5]

[edit] Bullying

Johnston claimed on Britain's Got Talent that he was victimised from the age of six because of his singing, and when asked by Simon Cowell how he deals with the issue at hand, he stated that he "carries on singing."[citation needed] However, there have been claims that the show's producers were accused of misleading the viewers and enhancing a "sob story".[6]
