[edit] Personal life
Comiskey was raised in an Episcopalian home in the Long Beach, California. He realized he was attracted to other boys when he hit puberty, but kept his attractions a secret. After graduation, he embraced his homosexuality and went to live in a gay part of town with a friend. After being gang-raped and beaten at a party, he began to reconsider his life. When two of his older brothers and a good friend from high school become Christians, Comiskey began to investigate. In November 1976, he became a born-again Christian.[2]
He moved back in with his parents and transferred to UCLA, where he met and married Annette. He studied English and French, and eventually received his M.Div. from Fuller Theological Seminary. Andrew started a support group for ex-gays at the Vineyard Santa Monica and with the further encouragement of the pastor, Comiskey started his own ex-gay organization called Desert Stream Ministries. In 1981, he became a pastor in the Vineyard Christian Fellowship. Later, he and Desert Stream would move and become part of Vineyard Anaheim.[3] In the following years, he continued his work as a pastor and leader of Desert Stream Ministries, and has written four books on overcoming homosexuality and gives seminars on the topic. He and his wife now have four children.[4]
In 2005, Comiskey left Southern California, and moved to Kansas City to work more closely with Mike Bickle and IHOP-KC.[5]
