Andreapolsky District

Andreapolsky District (Russian: Андреа́польский райо́н) is a district (raion) of Tver Oblast, Russia. It lies 550 km west of Moscow, in the Valdai Hills. Its administrative center is the town of Andreapol. The Daugava (Western Dvina) flows through the district.
District's population: 16,213 (2002 Census). Over 55% of the district's population live in Andreapol.
The area of the district is 3,051 km².
[edit] Economy and environment issues
Forests cover around 70% of the district. As a result, the logging industry is a substantial source of revenue. However, the extensive commercial logging has had a negative impact on the environment. Another developed industry is agriculture. There is also a porcelain production plant in Andreapol.
