Andre's Mother is a 1990 television film written by Terrence McNally.
Produced by WGBH and originally aired on American Playhouse by PBS stations nationwide in 1990, the Deborah Reinisch-directed film begins immediately after Andre's death from AIDS and focuses on his mother's inability to come to terms with his passing or share her grief with the young man's lover. Her rage is directed not only at the man she never accepted and her mother, who was less judgmental of her grandson's life, but at Andre himself as well.
The cast included Sada Thompson, Richard Thomas, and Sylvia Sidney. McNally won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Miniseries or a Special, and the National Board of Review named it Outstanding Television Movie of the Year.
The film was released in DVD format (Region 1 only) in April 2006.
