And, Like Sheep, We Have All Gone Astray is the 2nd demo recording by the group Napalm Death.

The recording was made in Knowle (near Birmingham) in October 1982 as a live recording (with no overdubs) on to a 2-track recorder. It was the last demo recording made by this line-up of the group (the group had previously recorded the 'Halloween' Demo 1 in August 1982).

The line-up for the recording was:

  • Nik Napalm (Nicholas Bullen) - Vocals
  • Daz F (Darryl Fideski) - Guitar
  • Robbo (Graham Robertson) - Bass
  • Rat (Miles Ratledge) - Drums

The cassette received an 'official' release through the Obituary Tapes label run by Mick Slaughter of Obituary fanzine (Kent, England). The tape was issued on a C40 cassette with a cover by Nicholas Bullen, and was sold via mail order and reviewed in a number of fanzines.

The title of the recording (created by Miles Ratledge) is a paraphrase of a phrase from the text The Holy Bible of the Christian religion (Isaiah 53:6).

[edit] Track listing

The tracklisting of this demo recording is currently incomplete (the recording contains 15 songs), but the recording does include:

  1. "Rival Factions" (Music & Lyrics: Bullen)
  2. "Pollution" (Music & Lyrics: Bullen)
  3. "Call This Aborted?" (Music & Lyrics: Bullen)
  4. "Traditional Society" (Music: Robertson & Fideski / Lyrics: Ratledge)
  5. "Punk is a Rotting Corpse" (Music & Lyrics: Bullen)
  6. "Confined" (Music: Robertson / Lyrics: Ratledge)
  7. "The Room with the Shuttered Window” (Music: Napalm Death / Lyrics: Bullen)
  8. "The Doomsday Cometh" (Music: Bullen & Robertson / Lyrics: Bullen)

‘Call This Aborted?’ is a re-worked version of the song 'Napalm' which appeared on the 1st demo by the group ('Halloween' Demo 1 - August 1982). The re-worked song features new lyrics.

‘Punk is a Rotting Corpse’ was the first song written by the group in December 1981. A previous version of the song was recorded on the 1st demo by the group ('Halloween' Demo 1 - August 1982).

'The Room with the Shuttered Window' was a freeform improvisation recorded in one take with no rehearsal. The title of the song is derived from the story 'The Shuttered Room' by August Derleth which was inspired by a fragment written by H.P. Lovecraft.

'The Doomsday Cometh' was inspired by a line from a poem written by the singer of the punk group Naked which appeared in issue 3 of Enigma fanzine.
