Ancient Diocese of Eauze

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The former Catholic archdiocese of Eauze, in south-west France, was suppressed in 879[1]. The see was moved from Eauze to Auch, the territory becoming part of the diocese of Auch. Eauze was anciently known also as Elusa.

The first mention of a bishop of Eauze is at the Council of Arles (314). The see may have been moved for mainly military reasons, around 850.[2]
