AN/SPQ-9, (sometimes spoken as spook nine), is a United States Navy surface detect and track radar used with the Mk-86 gun fire-control system. Primarily a surface search two-dimensional radar (range and bearing), it also can detect and track low altitude air targets.
Initially tested on the USS Norton Sound (AVM-1), it was also deployed on Spruance-class destroyers, Kidd-class destroyers, Ticonderoga-class cruisers, Tarawa-class amphibious assault ships, Iowa-class battleships (1980s refit), California-class cruisers and Virginia-class cruisers.
