Amy Schugar
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Amy Schugar is an American songwriter, arranger, singer and guitarist.
She was featured in Guitar Player Magazine's September 2006 issue. Schugar was a popular fixture on the Los Angeles, California metal scene during the metal days, with her band "Maiden America" that performed regularly at The Troubadour, Gazzarri's and the Whisky a Go Go clubs on the Sunset Strip. She also formed the hard rock group "Sass", which performed throughout the Phoenix, Arizona area.
A chance meeting with, at the time, fellow Phoenix resident Michael Schenker, formerly of UFO, The Scorpions and the Michael Schenker Group) became the catalyst for her step into the limelight. While attending a concert by one of her favorite artists, Eric Johnson, she was noticed by Schenker singing and playing guitar on the side of the stage. He was impressed with what he heard and saw, and they began their songwriting collaboration in early 2003. The duo recorded the album Under Construction, featuring Schenker's soulful guitar playing and Schugar's voice. Schugar was a special guest with the Michael Schenker Group (MSG) on their Autumn/Winter 2003 tour, showcasing some of the Schugar/Schenker songs with MSG.
Since then, Schugar has received endorsement deals with Daisy Rock Guitars, Floyd Rose Tremolo Systems, D'Addario Strings, Crate Amplifiers, Seymour Duncan, Fernandes Sustainers and Robert Keeley Electronics, and is featured in many music trade magazines and internet webzines. Schugar continues to write songs consistent with her bluesy melodic style. Amys Band is getting ready to Play Avalon Night Club May 31st at 830pm And is a Power Trio.
