Amur brown bear

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Amur brown bear (Ursus arctos lasiotus) is a brown bear subspecies that lives in Siberia, Hokkaido, Japan, Northern China and the Amur valley. It is also known as the Black Grizzly due to its black toned fur. The average adult Amur brown bear is between eight and eight and a half feet tall.

[edit] Relationship with people

The first people of Japan worship the bear, eating its flesh and drinking its blood as part of a religious festival.[1].

The man eating bear of Japan, which killed many people in Hokkaido, was an Amur brown bear.
