Amrita Thapar from Pune was awarded the title of Miss India Universe 2005 at a March 2005 function in Mumbai, India.[1].

She is a post-graduate in fashion design from the School of Fashion Technology in Pune[2] and had previously won other events including May Queen and Miss Pune Beauty titles.[3] She has also appeared in a number of music videos including Pankaj Udhas's "Jaaneman".[4]
