Chaiyo (Thai: ไชโย) is a district (Amphoe) in eastern part of Ang Thong Province.

[edit] History

The name of Ban Chaiyo traces back to when King Naresuan the Great and his brother, who later became King Ekathotsarot, won against the King of Lan Na and Burmese soldiers in this area. The soldiers of Ayutthaya shouted the Thai word Chaiyo to celebrate.

In the past, Amphoe Chaiyo was called Amphoe Ban Makham. When it was official upgraded to be Amphoe, the government selected name Chaiyo because it is the great name.

[edit] Geography

Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Phrom Buri of Singburi Province, Tha Wung and Mueang Lopburi of Lopburi Province, Ban Phraek and Maha Rat of Ayutthaya Province, and Mueang Ang Thong and Pho Thong of Ang Thong Province.

[edit] Administration

The district is subdivided into 9 subdistricts (tambon), which are further subdivided into 56 villages (muban). There are two townships (thesaban tambon) within the district. Chorakhe Rong covers the tambon Chorakhe Rong, Chaiyaphum, Lak Fa, Chawai, Tri Narong and parts of Chaiyarit. Tambon Chaiyo is completely covered by the township Ket Chaiyo.
