The track was written by A.B. Quintanilla III and Pete Astudillo for Selena's album Amor Prohibido and was chosen to be the first single from that album. The song is widely known as her signature song. The single debuted at number 13 on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks in the week of April 23, 1994[1] and peaked at number one seven weeks later (June 11, 1994), spending 9 weeks in pole position[2]. The single spent seventeen weeks in the Top Ten.
