Amlan Das Gupta is Professor of English, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. His publications include Jishu (1997); My Life: Khansaheb Alladiya Khan (translated with critical introduction, with Urmila Bhirdikar, Thema, 2000).[1]; Mosquito and Other Stories: Ghana-da's Tall Tales (a translation of the Ghonada stories of Premendra Mitra) (Penguin, 2004)[2]; editions of Shakespeare's Measure for Measure (Macmillan, 2004)[3] and Aristotle's Poetics (Longman, 2006)[4]. He is the editor of Renaissance Texts and Contexts (Macmillan, 2003) and Music and Modernity: North Indian Classical Music in an Age of Mechanical Reproduction (Thema, 2007). He is also building an archive of North Indian classical music at the School of Cultural Texts and Records at Jadavpur University.
