Amlai is a census town in Shahdol district in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India.
It essentially has three parts to it.
- Orient Paper Mills (OPM) colony
- Hukumchand Jute Mills (HJM) colony
- Coalfields colony
- Soda Factory
- Birla Mandir

As of 2001 India census,[1] Amlai had a population of 30,292. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Amlai has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 61% of the males and 39% of females literate. 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.
