[edit] Hi, Amrykid!

I just wanted to let you know that Wikipedia is not the place to discuss plans with your friend(s). Wikipedia user talk and article talk pages are meant to be used for messages relating to the content of our encyclopedia. For instance, you should not post messages asking whether your real life friend is going to the YMCA. The proper place to ask such questions is on e-mail, the phone, or an instant messanger service. On Wikipedia, personal messages are not tolerated. All of your interaction with other users on this website should be related to the encyclopedia's content, not your afternoon plans. Have a great day, and let me know if you need anything! Srose (talk) 22:11, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Well, it seems to me that the two of you know each other from somewhere other than Wikipedia as there is no evidence of you meeting on Wikipedia or discussing ISP, e-mail, etc. So maybe the next time you see Braniac, you could ask him for his phone number or e-mail address? In response to your question, yes, you can create templates. It should be one that there is a need for, however: generally, new userboxes are deleted or moved to their creator's user space (i.e. Template:NewUserbox would be moved to User:Amrykid/NewUserbox). To create a template, go to the search bar, type in Template:Nameofyourtemplatehere, and if nothing comes up, click on the red link that says "You searched for Template:Nameofyourtemplatehere". Then enter your formatting and save! :) Happy editing! Srose (talk) 23:39, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
    • The formatting is the code (like HTML, but wikicode, which is a bit different) that you use to design your template. For instance, I see you've made your own userboxes on your userpage: to make those images and texts pop up, with the correct sizes and colors, you had to enter a code. Srose (talk) 14:06, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
    • If you want something that you created to be deleted, please place db-author at the top of it. :) Srose (talk) 01:45, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

  1. No offense to Srose, but why didn't you ask me? I taught you about userboxes in the first place.
  1. Try this.
  1. Do you happen to know why my numbered lists will only say "1."?

[edit] License tagging for Image:Df-website3d.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Df-website3d.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 21:06, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Hi, Amrykid, I'm replying to your message on my talk page. Sorry it took me so long!! You won't get blocked for uploading an image that gets deleted; everyone has uploaded an inappropriately tagged image once or twice. If you want the image kept, please tag it. If not, you can place db-author on it and an admin will be around shortly to delete it. If you do not tag the image, it will be deleted in about a week. :) Happy editing! [edit] Re:Admin

Yes, users can become administrators (see WP:RFA for the full details). However, most candidates are regular contributors (20+ edits per day) for at least 4 months (see the standards section of WP:RFA) and have an absolutely spotless record - no vandalism warnings, etcetera. Standards are set quite high these days!! I'd advise that you wait at least 3 months before nominating yourself and involve yourself in activities such as articles for deletion, miscellany for deletion, and reverting vandalism, if you're serious about it. At Wikipedia, adminship isn't an honor of any kind: it's just a bunch of extra chores (commonly referred to as "the mop and the flamethrower"). If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me! Have a good day! :) Srose (talk) 02:13, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Talk page

Generally, users should not create extra talk pages unless they are archives or for particular, acceptable subjects. For example, I know of several established users who put all incivil remarks made toward them on a subpage (like User talk:Amrykid/incivil), or put all of their Signpost deliveries (see the one I get on my talk page) on a subpage, like User talk:Amrykid/Signpost. Creating a sub-talkpage to talk to your friends or something like that is not acceptable. It's also generally not a good idea to create a sub-talk page for vandalism warnings. Archives are also acceptable: see the Werdnabot header at the top of my talk page. Have a good day! :) Srose (talk) 15:16, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:green button

This is how you did it: 1) Create User:Amrykid/StatusChange2)

2) Add this html code:

<div style="position:absolute; z-index:100; right:10px; top:10px;" class="metadata" >I am currently: {{#switch:{}
| online=<span style="color: green;">online </span>
| busy=<span style="color: #FFAA00;">busy </span>
| away=<span style="color: red;">offline </span>
}}</div>

3) Then create User:Amrykid/Status2.

4) Add this html code:

5) You are basically done now. Whenever you want to change your status (green, yellow, or red light), just go to the /Status2 page and then change the words "online" to "busy" to get a yellow traffic light, or "away" for a red traffic light.

If you have any questions, message me back. --Nishkid64 21:20, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Just a reminder: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia

Hi, Amrykid.

I've been watching your contributions for the past month or so. You seem to have grasped wikicode fairly well, judging by your userpage and subpages.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia first and foremost. If you would like to be an editor here, you should edit articles, like China, Charles Darwin, Fish, and Chocolate, just to give a few examples. You should not merely edit your user page and your friends' talk pages. I see that you and your friends are still using talk pages occasionally to communicate. While it's great that you've cut down on it, I would suggest that you use a website like MySpace.com or livejournal.com to keep up with each other. There are also instant messanger services like the chat feature on Gmail and AOL Instant Messanger.

You need to start contributing to our encyclopedia. Wikipedia is not a place to design a page about yourself (AKA your userpage) and to talk to your friends (AKA your talk pages). Our mission is to build an encyclopedia. Find a topic that interests you, type it in the search bar, and find an article on it. Improve that article: fix the grammar or the information. You can even revert vandalism (go to Recent changes and then Recent changes patrol).

Editors in good standing are beginning to become concerned that you and several of your friends are using server space without contributing to the encyclopedia. With your knowledge of Wikicode, I think you could make large and valuable contributions to the encyclopedic content we host. Srose (talk) 17:56, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Categories:User:Amrykid/*

Hi Amrykid,

Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2006 October 8

In case you're not aware, categories are not meant for userspace – see somewhere in WP:CG! – so I or another admin are likely to close the discussions linked above soon and delete them. If there's anything you wish to salvage from them, do so now!  Best wishes, David Kernow (talk) 04:48, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
PS You could create User:Amrykid/Pages and User:Amrykid/Pages/Edits in lieu.

[edit] Image tagging for Image:Ho-chunk01.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Ho-chunk01.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Notice

You are not contributing to the encyclopedia. Despite being reminded several times, you continue to dress up your userpage and create pages outside userspace which have no enclyclopedic value. If you continue you will be blocked from editing indefinitely. -- Steel 18:28, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of branches in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

What is it that you are trying to do with this article? User:Zoe|(talk) 19:40, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

theres a ton branches in the world so they should be named - What does this mean? Branches of what? User:Zoe|(talk) 19:45, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

OK, Branches of the YMCA. The title of the article makes this crystal clear, doesn't it? Not. If you were to create List of Branches of the YMCA in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, it would probably get deleted because every sigle YMCA is not notable. Please see WP:NOT. User:Zoe|(talk) 19:48, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

yo its me telling you about 5 05. So wanna have a 3 way call tommorrow?

[edit] Your userpage

Steel359 deleted your user page. This info, and why he deleted it can be found in the log. Thanks. --Alex (Talk) 21:55, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Amrykid. I'm going to try and say this in the politest way possible. This is a serious encyclopedia, which you aren't contributing to. In the several months you've been registered you have made very few real contributions. I don't "want you off Wikipedia", but you aren't doing anything here. All you do is dress up your userpage and chat to your friends. I strongly advise you to register with somewhere like MySpace which is ideal for that sort of thing. -- Steel 22:10, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Userspace

Please don't create personal user templates outside your userspace. I have moved Template:Talk Amrykid to User talk:Amrykid/Template talk for you. --Alex (Talk) 22:09, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE:

Your userpage is protected because you keep filling it with non-Wikipedia related stuff. And what do you need help with in that article? -- Steel 22:04, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

No. -- Steel 23:05, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Header

If you are talking about the headers on my user page and talk page well i'm afriad i don't know how to make them because User:Daniel.Bryant designed them for me. Maybe if you ask him, he might be willing to design a user page for you. DARReNTALK 13:30, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your message to Srose about blocking your account

Amkid, your old account does not need blocking, and Srose isn't an administrator so cannot block it anyway. --Alex (Talk) 19:39, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Yup, unfortunately, I'm not an admin (yet!), although it looks like Alex is about to be. ;) Why would you want your old account blocked? Starting over here, clean, is probably the better choice. Additionally, I'm sorry to see that you've decided to leave Wikipedia (as evidenced by your message to Brainiac). Learning the rules is frustrating and, at times, discouraging, but after you've got them down, it's a lot of fun. I'm also disappointed by a message left to you by another user several headings up (not Steel - he's being as polite as he can be). It was rather rude. Let me know if I can be of any help. Srose (talk) 22:38, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
