[edit] Editing guidelines

Hello. Please don't forget to provide an edit summary. Thanks, and happy editing.

Please remember to mark your edits as minor when (and only when) they genuinely are minor edits (see Wikipedia:Minor edit). Marking a major change as a minor one (and vice versa) is considered poor etiquette. The rule of thumb is that only an edit that consists solely of spelling corrections, formatting and minor rearranging of text should be flagged as a 'minor edit'. Thanks! --Mel Etitis (Talk) 19:36, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to WikiProject LGBT studies!

Hi, AMK1211, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
  • If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome! AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 04:17, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Hrc logo.svg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Hrc logo.svg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:41, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Rep Kern's son

Please do not readd the information that Rep. Kern's son may be gay. To do so, without a reliable source, is a violation of our policy on the biographies of living people. I'm removing it again. Re-adding it may result in a block. - Philippe | Talk 02:25, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Um, I didn't add that. I put it on the talk page, that he might be gay and if a WP:RS could be found, it could be added to the article, but I did not put it in the article. — AMK1211talk! 02:28, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
Please accept my sincere apologies. You're quite correct, of course. - Philippe | Talk 02:31, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Jericho map

If I followed the links correctly, you created the ASA/USA map on Wikipedia. I had a question that I have not found an answer for, and was hoping you could help. We know that there are "21 states west of the Mississippi" in the ASA, but there are a total of 24 states west of the Mississippi. We know Texas is not ASA, but that means that there are still two states west of the Miss. that are not ASA, Many seem to assume that those two are Alaska and Hawaii, but I do not remember the show ever saying that. If either Alaska or Hawaii are in the ASA then one of the red states is wrong. If both Alaska and Hawaii are in the ASA then two of the red states are wrong. My best guess is that Alaska is in the ASA and that Louisiana is not, but I do not remember aver seeing anything official on this question. —MJBurrage(TC) 17:46, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I did create that map. However, I do not watch the show; all I did was create a .svg version of the map based on the map that was already there, which was in an inferior format.  — AMK1211talk! 18:45, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Ugly bety header.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:Ugly bety header.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by an adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 06:25, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
