[edit] Removal of 'Obtaining AROS' section
I removed this section because it was not encyclopedic, it was more like an advert. Its removal won't obstruct anyone from obtaining AROS as anyone interested in obtaining it would follow the link to the site at the top of External links and would be able download it and see the information about contributing to AROS etc there.
Please note this edit is purely about what wikipedia is for and isn't intended as any kind of slight against AROS or its supporters or the article - just the opposite, the article merits expansion, for example an {{Infobox OS}} and more background about the project would be good :) GhostGirl 12:27, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
I don't exactlyǖ know what is of encyclopedic value or or not, or on how one bring the concept of advertising to something which is free... what is talked about is an OS which that due to its nature is Open Source and has its bin as its source freely available elsewhere, I would like to know how precisly it isn't directly related to the project... what more relevance to it then having itself made available.
BTW people would be as free to follow it as he would following other links, as in anyone interested in reading about it would. One could for example refer to the Liberty Statue while not saying where it was located, but then you would lose some value on how valuable that information really was. pixie 1:55, 25 July 2006
If I can add a little perspective here, without necessarily solving the debate, if you look up, say "ostrich" in an encyclopedia, Wiki- or otherwise, would you find a paragraph on "where to spot an ostrich?" I think that would be implied in that typical "indigenous to (insert country here)" cliche' found in the first line or two of the entry. I own several Amiga computers and I want to see future successes for the AROS project, and with that I still have to say that I think the "Obtaining AROS" section doesn't fit, not because it seems so much an advert as just plain redundant. [edit] Major cleanup of AROS article needed
I think the list of programs should be removed altogether. What other Wikipedia article describing an operating system has a similar list? (most likely none; this list just looks plain unprofessional and should be an article of it's own - Applications for AROS - at most).
Furthermore, I think most users would like to see up to date screenshots of what AROS looks like.

- I believe that avoiding the trademark issue would be good. The name at the beginning of the article has been changed to "AROS Research Operating System". But I checked out the AROS website[1] and didn't find out what "AROS" stands for. I looked on several pages where it would likely be, but I didn't find either expansion of the acronym; "Amiga Research Operating System" nor "AROS Research Operating System". We will need a reference before the name of the article is changed. Val42 01:48, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

- [www.aros.org] now redirects to a totally different page than it did before. The previous page didn't identify what the name is, but this new page now clearly shows the name at the top. This is all that I requested before the name of this article was changed. Now that the references have been provided, I support the change of name of this article.
- However, these references have not been provided in the article. I will make some changes to the article to provide references. Val42 16:11, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
